Overview

Write and edit speeches, op-eds, and video messages for the SRSG.

You have:

  • Good knowledge of disaster risk reduction related issues is required.
  • Great communication skills are required.
  • Excellent information gathering and analysis skills are required.
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in journalism, international relations, economics, or related field is required.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the field of speechwriting, writing and editing articles, op-eds, statements, press releases, and web text is required.
  • Experience working for UN agencies and international organizations is an asset.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Result of Service Op-eds, speeches, and video messages for the SRSG are written and edited. Speeches and videos received from other units for submission to the Office of the SRSG are edited.

Deliverables: 1. Writing speeches and video messages for the SRSG in the context of the Global Platform and other events. 2. Editing speeches and videos received from other units for submission to the Office of the SRSG.

Expected duration 3,5 months from 1 April 2022 - 15 July 2022

Duties and Responsibilities The purpose of the consultancy is to support the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in writing and editing op-eds, speeches, and video messages for the SRSG.

The consultant will report to the Chief, Communications, Advocacy, Knowledge Management and ICT, a.i. at United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. He/she will also collaborate with other relevant colleagues within UNDRR such as the Office of the SRSG.

Qualifications/special skills Competency: - Good knowledge of disaster risk reduction related issues is required. - Great communication skills are required. - Excellent information gathering and analysis skills are required. Academic Qualifications: - Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in journalism, international relations, economics, or related field is required. Experience: - At least 10 years’ experience in the field of speechwriting, writing and editing articles, op-eds, statements, press releases, and web text is required. - Experience working for UN agencies and international organizations an asset. Language: Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
