Result of Service 2. Objective. The overall objective of the contract is to develop a biosafety protocol for the new facilities of the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office located in Obarrio, Fortune Plaza in Panama City, Panama within the framework of a back to office plan after COVID-19 pandemic.

Responsibilities Responsibilities of the Consultant includes, but are not limited to: 1. Understand the office space, distribution of offices, meetings rooms and common areas as well as number of workers expected to occupy these areas. 2. Understand the values and high standards of the UNEP office regarding the protection of workers’ health. 3. Evaluate and take into consideration ventilation conditions of different areas to minimise risk of exposure to virus. 4. Consider the full scope of the new back to office plan after COVID 19 pandemic, as well as international guidelines, recommendations, best practices and local regulations to develop the biosafety protocol. 5. Develop a biosafety protocol for the new facilities of the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office within the framework of a back to office plan after COVID-19 pandemic, aimed to protect health of all UNEP personnel.

  • Final biosafety protocol document for the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office including signage in the workplace

Deliverables

Product 1:

Document containing the summary of mapping of recommendations and guidelines by international organizations for protection of health in work environments after COVID-19 pandemic

Product 2:

1st draft of the biosafety protocol

Product 3:

Final biosafety protocol document for the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office in Spanish and English.

Product 4: Signage installed in the workplace

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Purpose

The United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for global environment.

The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LAC Office), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).

The UNEP LAC Office is looking for a specialist on biosafety consultant required for the development of the biosafety protocol within the framework of a back to office plan after COVID-19 pandemic for the new facilities of the Latin America and the Caribbean Office. The purpose of the biosafety protocol should be to establish standards and parameters of care in the new work environment (offices, meeting rooms and communal areas) and learn to take care of each other, limit the spreading of the virus and minimize collaborators’ risk of exposure to COVID-19. The biosafety protocol should also include guidelines for adaptation of the new workplace (including but not limited to signage recommendations, advised physical distance in the workplace, communication recommendations, etc.) for workers health protection. The Regional Director and the New Office Committee will be supervising the protocol development and will provide support to communicate adopted measures to all personnel and the full implementation of the protocol.

The consultant will be supervised by the Regional Director, will work at the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office in Panama City, Panama, and will be paid according to the development of deliverables.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in architecture, engineering, health, occupational health, biosafety or related field is required.

Experience: - A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in occupational health, biosafety in work environments or related field is required. Experience working on green offices, and knowledge of international organizations standards is desirable.

Language: - Fluency in Spanish is required for this position, and confident English level is desirable

Skills: - Excellent writing and editing skills are required. Computer skills (MS Office, e-mail, internet, dropbox, web editing) are required.
