MAIN FUNCTIONS** Under the general supervision of the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences (SC/EES), and the direct supervision of the Chief of Research and Policy Section, the consultant will support the implementation and coordination at the local level of the UNESCO-MAB Amazon project "Amazon Biosphere Reserve Project. Improving the Resilience and Halting Biodiversity Loss in the Greater Amazon Basin", in particular with the Ecuadorian MAB National Committee/Focal Point and the biosphere reserves to carry out the following tasks: - Contribute to the planning and development of actions that allow the implementation of the project in Ecuador. - Contribute to the planning of actions and support the Focal Point in the implementation and evaluation of activities of the MAB Programme in Ecuador. - Support the scientific committee team for data collection in these biosphere reserves, including maps, and visual and graphic materials. 3. DELIVERABLES AND PAYMENT --------------------------- **3. deliverables and payment** 1. **End of month 1:** Work Plan for project implementation in the BRs for the 11 months of work within the scope of the project. 2. **End of month 2:** Detailed activities plan for project implementation at the Podocarpus-El Condor BR. Includes reporting on the main meetings and workshops and their participants when they take place (including photos when available). 3. **End of month 3:** Detailed activities plan for project implementation at the Sumaco BR. Includes reporting on the main meetings and workshops and their participants when they take place (include photos when available). 4. **End of month 4:** Detailed activities plan for project implementation at the Yasuní BR. Includes reporting on the main meetings and workshops and their participants when they take place (include photos when available). 5. **End of month 5:** Support data collection and data on the geospatial and sustainable initiatives databases. Contribute to the agenda and preparation of meetings and workshops. General report on the development of activities carried out. Long Description ---------------- **6. End of month 6:** Amazon project progress and monitoring of the sustainable initiatives’ implementation report (include photos and/or videos when available). **7. End of month 7:** Report on the sustainable initiatives’ entry data process. **8. End of month 8:** Contribute to the agenda and preparation of the joint dialogue workshops; follow-up of sustainable initiatives carried out by the reserves. Conduct fieldwork for data collection. General report with the development of activities (include photos and/or videos when available). **9. End of month 9:** Support missing data collection and accompany BRs activities. General report with the development of activities. **10. End of month 10:** Evaluation of the results of the selected sustainable initiatives. Follow-up on the reserves and organisation of meetings. Report with the evaluation (include photos and/or videos when available). **11. End of month 11:** Final narrative report on the activities carried out (with photos or videos if available), lessons learned and recommendations for continuity of technical assistance in the Science Sector. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) Strategic thinking (M) Making quality decisions (M) Building partnerships (M) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- - Degree in Biology, Environmental Engineering or related fields. - At least 5 years of proven professional experience in management, administration or research in conservation areas. - At least 2 years of (proven) experience in international cooperation projects and multilateral organisations. - Ability to perform statistical analysis and analytical interpretation of information. - At least 2 years of experience using Geographic Information Systems. - Ability to work and communicate with different levels of stakeholders (e.g., governmental and biosphere reserves authorities, Indigenous and local communities, scientists). - Willingness to travel to the Amazonian provinces and the city of Quito. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- Intermediate level knowledge of Power Point, Excel and Word utilities.
