Under the leadership of the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC), who leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Ethiopia and coordinates all UN operations at the country level, the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) provides strategic coordination support to the UNCT. Ethiopia hosts one of the largest UN country teams in the world with 26 specialized agencies, funds and programs working in a harmonized manner through the joint UN and Government Strategy, the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. It is framed around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is in line with the national priorities

Under the direct supervision of the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Assists the of Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in all activities, including coordination, operations and advocacy, information management, humanitarian finance and policy development. • Assists in the preparation of communication material, drafts presentations, talking points • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. briefing notes, analysis and reports related to the humanitarian situation and response in the country; • Provides substantive and technical support to the coordination Office, including identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations in consultation with the various agency. • Coordinates and periodically participates in field missions, including preparing the senior leadership's agenda, drafting mission summaries, etc. • Establishes and maintains contacts with government officials, other UN agencies, nongovernmental organizations, diplomatic missions, media, etc. • Organizes and participates in work groups, meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners. • Performing any other duties as requested by the Head of Office/Deputy Head of Office

humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development, or other related area. • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills • Excellent computer literacy and skills (word, excel, lotus notes, data bases and internet, outlook). • Ability to work with moderate supervision, tight deadlines with efficiency, competency, and integrity in a multi-cultural environment. • Experience in a humanitarian context in the UN Common System or other comparable international organization is desirable.

The position is based in Addis Ababa - the capital city of Ethiopia. The city is generally safe, apart from occasional petty crime. Addis Ababa is a regional hub for many humanitarian, development, and diplomatic agencies. Living conditions are good with basic services easily available (e.g. schools, restaurants, health, and recreation facilities). Good options for accommodation are available; and taxis are generally safe.
