Overview

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in space engineering, space policy, economics, business administration, innovation studies or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in similar fields, in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least five (5) years working experience in the space sector, innovation, or related policy and industry domains is required.
  • Working experience in a space startup is required.
  • Professional experience in educational teaching and instructional delivery is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.

Result of Service

The consultant will design, develop, and deliver in-studio recorded learning content for Modules 2 and 3 of the SPICE e-learning course. The consultant will ensure that the modules are pedagogically sound, analytically rigorous, industry-relevant, and accessible to learners with limited prior exposure to the space sector, while remaining aligned with UN values, peaceful applications, and sustainable development objectives. The consultant will provide the following deliverables: a) Inception report outlining the proposed approach and workplan; b) detailed curriculum plan; c) structured outlines for Modules 2 and 3, including lesson titles, learning objectives, case studies, interactive elements and estimated duration for each lesson; d) draft and final slides and scripts in English for all lessons, aligned with the recommended curriculum outline and course style guidelines; e) high-quality recorded presentations for all lessons under Modules 2 and 3, produced in accordance with UNOOSA standards, including any revisions or re-recording as may be required to achieve desired results; and f) compilation of all finalized materials (slides, scripts, case studies, references, credits etc.) submitted in editable formats.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is recruiting a consultant to develop a Space Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship (SPICE) e-learning course. The course supports UNOOSA’s mandate to promote the peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable development of the global space economy through education and training with a particular focus on youth and early-career professionals from developing countries. Module 1 (The New Space Economy) and Module 2 (Innovation) form the conceptual backbone of the course. They establish a shared understanding of the global space ecosystem, value chains, innovation dynamics, technological trends, and sustainability considerations that underpin subsequent practical modules - Module 3 (Commercialization) and Module 4 (Entrepreneurship). Under the supervision of the Space Economy Lead, the overall guidance of the Chief of the Space Applications Section and under the overall strategic coordination of the Director of the Office, the tasks of the consultant will include, but not be limited to: A. Curriculum and content development • Develop curriculum and detailed lesson plans for Modules 2 and 3, broken down into 15-minute lessons, in line with the recommended curriculum outline. Total duration of the presentation is approximately 6 to 10 hours. • Conduct independent research to gather relevant information and materials for the course. • Prepare high-quality presentation slides and full lecture scripts in English for recorded delivery. • Integrate global case studies, examples from both emerging and established space economies, and practical illustrations of space innovation and commercialization. B. Course delivery • Record lectures for Modules 2 and 3 in a professional studio setting, following UNOOSA guidance on style and presentation quality. • Present content in a clear, engaging, and learner-centered manner, suitable for a global, diverse audience. C. Coordination and alignment • Coordinate with UNOOSA and other module leads to ensure conceptual coherence and consistency across the SPICE course. • Revise content based on feedback during the curriculum alignment and finalization phase. D. Documentation and knowledge management • Submit all final materials (slides, scripts, and supporting resources) in editable formats. • Provide brief recommendations for future updates or enhancements to modules. • Ensure all relevant information and documents are saved in a shared online folder in a timely and organized manner for ease of future reference by UNOOSA. • Be available to answer follow-up questions within three months after submission of final deliverables via email or other agreed mode of communication.
