**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Culture Sector (CLT) Duty Station: Palestine, State of Job Family: Culture Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 25/05/2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- As part of its ongoing efforts to sustain the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in Palestine and accompany the national authorities in this endeavor, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – UNESCO wishes to support the Ministry of Culture (MoC) in the upgrade of the Digital National Registry for the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) established by the Ministry. The main goal of the National Registry is to present the Palestinian elements of intangible cultural heritage in digital format to make its access available to public, for various purposes, including documentation, and to enhance research on the living heritage of Palestinians. The Digital National Registry for ICH has been prepared and enriched since 2012, and it includes nowadays several elements and sub- elements along with relevant details on Palestinian ICH. Hence, UNESCO is seeking the expertise of a Senior Software engineer or programmer to upgrade the digital features and characteristics of the Digital National Registry for ICH and to provide relevant technical support and trainings to the staff of the Ministry of Culture. Long Description ---------------- **Tasks:** *Under the overall authority of the Head of UNESCO Ramallah Office and the direct supervision of the Culture Programme Specialist, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:* 1. Propose and implement technical solutions for the upgrade of the Digital National Registry for ICH. The current ICH Registry software needs to be updated in order to be fit for properly documenting ICH elements and enrich the entries of the Registry. The software will have to be designed in a way that the Ministry’s personnel can customize it afterwards in light of their evolving needs. 2. The ICH registry shall: - Include videos, audio, photos, and large collections. - Be divided into elements and sub-elements (literature, proverbs, songs, stories, books, etc) - Provide results and summary about each element. - Provide elements and sub-elements in geographic areas and locations. - Provide classifications of the elements (locations, field, subject, bearers of heritage . - Display specific vocabulary and terminology in different colours as this would assist in preparing for Palestinian ICH encyclopedia. - Include the option to add new elements and sub elements. - Be user-friendly. 3.
