Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship is not paid and is offered in hybrid basis (five days per week; 35 hours; working hours 8:00 to 15:30). The internship in the Social Development Unit at ECLAC Mexico will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision of the Head of the Social Development Unit at ECLAC's subregional headquarters, the intern will support the team in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and information on social development in the following general areas: social protection policies; poverty and inequality reduction; social and labor inclusion; gender and care policies; disability and aging policies; education and health; and other relevant areas of substantive research. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Searching for, analyzing, and visualizing qualitative and quantitative data and information related to social development. - Contributing to the drafting, editing, and analysis of materials for the team, including literature reviews and summaries of relevant publications on social development topics. - Presenting research findings, proposing new or emerging topics, and exchanging ideas with colleagues on social policies and human development. - Assisting in additional tasks, including supporting the organization of events related to social development, providing logistical support for meetings, and preparing minutes.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
