This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Senior Technical Advisor or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Social mobilization, Training and Volunteering Specialist will:

1.Awareness raising and outreach

  • Develop a communication and awareness raising strategy to promote national volunteering in the country;

  • Organize awareness campaigns in universities, colleges, administration, CSOs, NGOs, businesses, the general public;

  • Develop tools to promote volunteering;
  • Ensure that traditional and social media promote and report on volunteers’ activities and support the dissemination of volunteers’ testimonials and work.

2.Capacity building

  • Develop training modules and tools, and set up a system for volunteers’ training;
  • Carry out trainings on voluntary engagement and citizenship;
  • Ensure a continuous engagement with, monitor and evaluate volunteers’ activities;
  • Ensure training of Regional Volunteers Centers and Volunteers Host Organizations in management of volunteers;
  • Develop a plan to prepare and support volunteers’ socio-professional integration upon completion of their volunteering.

3.Project implementation

  • Participate in identification of Regional Volunteers Centers;
  • Contribute to the redaction of Regional Volunteer Centers’ guide;
  • Define selection criteria for recruitment of volunteers;
  • Collect and analyze requests received for volunteers;
  • Supervise volunteering activities;
  • Contribute to strengthening partnership with partner institutions and structures;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development or equivalent

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience in developing tools and training groups;
  • Proven experience in promotion and popularize volunteering and social mobilization;
  • Proven experience in communication and set up public events.

Language skills:

  • Portuguese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

Volunteer programmes and volunteer management, Community participation and development, Other civil society or community development experience

Area of expertise details:

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience in developing tools and training groups;
  • Proven experience in promotion and popularize volunteering and social mobilization;
  • Proven experience in communication and set up public events;
  • Excellent oral and written skills;
  • Excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Past experience in development organization is an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in sustainable development, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Fluency in spoken and written Portuguese is required. Working knowledge of French or English is optional.
