Digital advocacy is a key part of UN Nepal’s communication efforts. In the past few years, the UN Nepal has achieved high reach and engagement through its social media channels. Our audiences look to us for information on key issues championed by the UN in Nepal, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and Sustainable Development in Nepal.

One of our strategic focuses is to ensure greater understanding, participation, and meaningful engagement with online audiences, especially through an exploration of new digital platforms that have expansive reach among young people, such as TikTok. Harnessing the popularity of these platforms will provide an opportunity to inform, engage and win support from youth audiences for the cause of people in Nepal.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Public Information Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Social Media Officer will:

• Work with Public Information Manager and the Social Media Consultant to create bi-weekly social media content calendars for the UNRC and UNCT account • Provide suggestion for creating creative and fun video concepts, suited for the TikTok platform and targeted audiences. • Map social media influencers in the region and identify opportunities to partner with at least 3 TikTok influencers in 2021 to promote UNRC campaigns. • Prepare bi-weekly analytics and content reports capturing national trends, feedback from followers, social listening, opportunities and challenges and UNRC’s TikTok account performance. • Maintain a repository of all Social media -related multimedia (audio-visual and graphics). • Lead day to day monitoring and management UN Nepal and UNRC’s social media account, including posting content, monitoring content performance and coordinating with RCO Social media consultant to manage responses to questions and queries posted by followers diligently. • Engage with the TikTok community daily in a way that is on-brand. • Establish best practices. • Contribute to the strategy, vision, and voice of the channel. • Conduct a qualitative report to identify themes and issues raised by people on the social media platform through social listening.

• Professionalism: demonstrated understanding of operations relevant to [United Nations in Nepal]; technical capabilities or knowledge relevant or transferrable to [United Nations in Nepal] procedures and rules; discretion, political sensitivity, diplomacy and tact to deal with clients; ability to apply good judgement; ability to liaise and coordinate with a range of different actors, especially in senior positions; where appropriate, high degree of autonomy, personal initiative and ability to take ownership; resourcefulness and willingness to accept wide responsibilities and ability to work independently under established procedures; ability to manage information objectively, accurately and confidentially; responsive and client-oriented; • Integrity: demonstrate the values and ethical standards of the UN n daily activities and behaviours while acting without consideration of personal gains; resist undue political pressure in decision-making; stand by decisions that are in the organization’s interest even if they are unpopular; take prompt action in cases of unprofessional or unethical behaviour; does not abuse power or authority; • Teamwork and respect for diversity: • Communication: proven interpersonal skills; good spoken and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to conduct presentations, articulate options and positions concisely; ability to make and defend recommendations; ability to communicate and empathize with staff (including national staff), military personnel, volunteers, counterparts and local interlocutors coming from very diverse backgrounds; capacity to transfer information and knowledge to a wide range of different target groups; • Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, which includes solidarity, compassion, reciprocity and self-reliance; and commitment towards the UN mission and vision, as well as to the UN Core Values.

• Bachelors in any discipline with one year of proven knowledge and experience of social media management. Preference will be given to those with technical skill to use various designing tools such as Adobe, Indesign, video editing, etc. • Experience engaging audiences through effective management of social media channels and tools. • Excellent communication and reporting skills, both written and oral. Desirable • Previous experience working with a UN agency, or a humanitarian NGO.

The UNVs will be working remotely until the situation allows for deployment, at which time the positions will be based in provincial capitals.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
