The aim of this internship is to ssupport the Global Heath Team in developing and implementing an integrated social media communication strategy and related content in support of global health priorities.

The intern shall support UNICEF in fulfilling its mission to ensure the health and well-being of every child. Daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual's background and duties may include but are not limited to assisting with developing and coordinating the UNICEF Health’s social media accounts for daily postings.

How can you make a difference?

Main duties and responsibilities:

Under the primary supervision of the Sr. Advisor Partnerships, the Social Media Intern's duties will include the following:

• Plan, create, and curate social media content daily, maintain and update weekly editorial calendars, collect, and collate multimedia information from different departments.
• Monitor various sources for new content and information about what is happening in and around the UN related to child, adolescent, and maternal health any given week.
• Create visuals, quote cards and other materials as requested using online tools (such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop).
• Attend press conferences and events to gather quotes, take photos and videos which can be used in social media posts.
• Draft posts for Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
• Research trends and posts from partners and suggest retweets/reposts; monitor the social media accounts for followers' comments and questions,
• Research latest social media trends for the visualization and communication of child health related topics/issues; assist the Office of the Director’s team in researching iconography in the Office's image databases and online using the Office's photo library; research concepts for campaigns and introduce ideas through clear visual and verbal presentations; respond to day-to-day requests for drafting posts and creating engaging visuals, graphics, videos for the Office's social media channels,
• Support special events as needed; and perform other related duties requested by the supervisor, as appropriate.

Duration: 15 weeks full-time with a possibility of extension

Stipend: A monthly stipend will be provided to the selected intern

Work Modality and environment: In person/full-time basis

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• Be enrolled in, or have completed within the past 2 years, a university program in Public Health, Public Policy, and Communications or in related fields (second university degree or bachelor’s level or equivalent, or higher);
• Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and, - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Language - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Required documentation

• Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and has completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree (if the candidate is 18 years old, this replaces the two-year bachelor’s completion requirement); or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Master’s, PhD). It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion.
• Copy of their most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance
• Copy of Identification Card (ID)
• One letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from professional email address
• Certification of health insurance coverage for the full duration of the internship

UNICEF will not cover costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship.

Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for International positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
