Support UNRIC with social media management and content creation.

You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Good knowledge of graphic and video editing software, including but not limited to Canva, Adobe Suite Products, CapCut and similar software.
  • Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
  • Ability to provide photo and video coverage is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages is also desirable: Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) in Brussels, within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNRIC Brussels is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs), which are the principal source of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. Overall, UNICs are responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in local language; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. The United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC)'s mission is to communicate the values, history and mandate of the United Nations and its actions in building a more peaceful, fair, and sustainable world. UNRIC engages with partners, civil society, media, public institutions, academia, the private sector, think thanks and the creative community. UNRIC also provides communications support to United Nations agencies located in Brussels and works together with the European Union institutions. The Centre covers 22 countries and works in 13 languages. It is organized by country and language, with nine (9) Desk Officers covering designated areas. The intern is under the direct supervision of direct supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant or Desk Officer in the UNRIC. The internship is for an initial period of four (4) months with an opportunity for extension up to a maximum of six (6) months depending on the needs of the Department and availability of the intern. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days a week (35 hours) and may be hybrid or remote. The social media intern's duties will include the following: - Use the UNRIC Trello Boards to assist in planning, creating, and curating content ahead of time; - Assist in collecting and collating multimedia information from different departments and organizations; - Assist in monitoring various sources for new content and information about what is happening in and around the UN on a given week; - Assist in editing and subtitling news videos for UNRIC’s social media channels, using dedicated software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Canva); assist in creating visuals, quote cards and other materials as requested using online tools (such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop); - Attend press conferences, meetings and events in Brussels to gather quotes and take photos and videos which may be used in social media posts; - Assist in drafting posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn; - Research trends and posts from partners and suggest retweets/reposts; assist in monitoring social media accounts for followers' comments and questions, and flagging them to the team; - Take an active role in the live coverage of events taking place in Brussels; - Assist in drafting monthly reports reflecting performance of the UNRIC’s social media accounts; - Carry out other tasks as requested.

Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. -Applicants must have good knowledge of graphic and video editing software, including but not limited to Canva, Adobe Suite Products, CapCut and similar software. -Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. -Ability to provide photo and video coverage is desirable.

Languages

English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in one or more of the following languages is also desirable: Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
