You have:

- Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator (or equivalent), photo and video editing software, and social media platforms including Facebook, X, Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube is required.
- Fluency in oral and written English is required and French is desirable.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; a first-level degree in social sciences, communication, marketing is desirable.
- Familiarity with issues related to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN system, and other international, sustainable development-related processes is desirable.

Result of Service
Contribute to social media outreach through content production and posting, focusing on the following: • Drawing upon substantive input and material from the Office of the Executive Secretary and programmatic units of the Secretariat, reflecting the Secretariat’s priorities in digital conversations • Promoting key events related to the work of the Convention and its Protocols, including by drawing up social media plans and obtaining the required clearances for their implementation. Work with the team of communication interns to set up an effective schedule of posting aligned with the Secretariat’s Communication Calendar.

Duties and Responsibilities
ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. At the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, world leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for 'sustainable development'. The Convention on Biological Diversity was opened for signature in Rio in 1992. The Convention has three main objectives: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal and is administered by the United Nations Environment Programme. Its main tasks are to arrange for and service meetings of the Conference of the Parties, including preparation of pertinent documentation, operation of the central node of the clearing-house mechanism, liaison and coordination with other international bodies and processes and, in close collaboration with these partners, the provision of technical support for the effective implementation of the Convention. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Communication Officer, in the Communication Unit of the CBD, the individual contractors will perform the following duties: Draft social media strategies and plans reflecting the Secretariat communication priorities, including support to the implementation of the Kunming – Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, meetings of the Parties to the CBD, campaigns, relevant UN days, activities of the Executive Secretary, and other activities, as appropriate. Undertake social media activities including by administering or contributing to social media content boards, monitoring account activities, scheduling, posting cleared texts to the appropriate channels, designing visual assets to support messaging, and maintaining a dashboard of essential impact/engagement metrics. Post videos on the YouTube channel and publish cleared communication content in the communication/news section of the CBD website using the Secretariat’s Content Management System. Contribute to and use the Communication calendar, ensuring social media assets are created in a timely manner. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Academic qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. First-level degree in social sciences, communication, marketing is desirable. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required and French is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.

Local recruitment: Applicants should be Canadian residents or citizens or have permission to work in Canada. Travel may be required during this contract period.
