Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Social Media Consultant will produce compelling and innovative content designed to engage the public on issues relevant to UNEP Energy & Climate Branch's work including the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), the Cool Coalition as well as the Global Alliance on Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC). The consultant will provide strategic guidance on how to deliver that content to various audiences.

Under the supervision of the UNEP Energy & Climate Branch Communications Officer and in close collaboration with UNEP Social Media Unit and the relevant programme officers, the consultant will perform the following duties: * Draft content for posting on IMEO, Cool Coalition and GlobalABC English-language social media channels; * Track performance of all social media posts created; * Prepare strategic social media plans for IMEO, Cool Coalition and the GlobalABC; * Coordinate social media support to IMEO, Cool Coalition and GlobalABC as well as the Energy & Climate Branch other initiatives; * Coordinate social media support to report launches; * Coordinate social media support to online events and other high-level events; * Increase visibility for IMEO, GlobalABC, Cool Coalition and the Energy & Climate Branch digital content.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Academic Qualifications: University degree in communications, international relations or a related field is required. Academic background in environmental science is desirable. Knowledge of methane issues is a plus. Experience: Experience: A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in social media is required. Experience with the United Nations system is desirable. Experience coordinating social media support for digital campaigns is desirable. Language: Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations language is desirable.
