Job Description

The SEL consultant will work with the following committees within CERD: learning gap and transitional stage, capacity building and development, inclusive education, non-formal education and early childhood development to ensure the integration of SEL component across all the activities of those committees.

The Social Emotional Learning Consultant will work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders and committees members to embed SEL throughout the frameworks of the selected committees and mainstream across CERD activities. The consultant will be responsible for designing and delivering professional development to educators on SEL best practices and contributing to the development of research-informed resources related to SEL programming.

The consultant will:

- Actively read all relevant Nurturing Care Framework material (handbook and practice guide) to familiarize herself/himself with the NCF approach; and ensure the components included on ECD are in-line with the Nurturing Care Framework. - Evaluate existing SEL material and make recommendations for improvement - Develop new SEL modules and activities aligned with national standards and evidence-based practices - Review all ongoing projects in CERD and assess where SEL components can be integrated. - Ensure that SEL content adheres to best practices, professional global standards, and principles and is integrated in the CERD activities targeting children between 0 and 8 years old. - Ensure all research on ECD in CERD include SEL components specifically on inclusive schools, Reasons behind drop-out and what to do to reduce drop out in Lebanon, enrollment how to promote enrolment in schools, PISA (piloting in 4 schools), wellbeing in schools, reporting on SDG4, analysis of public exams.

Expected Deliverables: The consultant will be expected to produce the following deliverables:

- Assessment and Analysis: The consultant is expected to conduct an assessment of the school's existing social emotional learning programs, policies, and practices. The analysis would help identify gaps, challenges, strengths, and opportunities for improvement. - Recommendation Report: Based on the assessment and analysis, the consultant prepares a report outlining recommendations and strategies for developing and implementing effective social emotional learning initiatives. - Curriculum Development: The consultant will work with the committee members to design materials such as lessons, activities, and assessments, that align with the recommended strategies. - Program Implementation and Evaluation: The consultant will support the committees in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the social emotional learning program, adjusting as needed, and reporting on the progress made. - Communication Strategy: The consultant will develop a communication strategy that engages parents, community members, and stakeholders in supporting the social emotional learning initiative. - Mapping the SEL framework to the curriculum subjects: The consultant will develop a report the mapping of the SEL component into the curriculum subject areas. - Monitoring Framework: The consultant will develop a monitoring framework to supervise the integration of the SEL component into the curriculum materials that will be piloted.

Key Working Relationships:

CERD President and IRC ECD Senior Technical Quality Manager.

Qualifications

- PHD in education, special education, psychology, or other social and paramedical field with special focus on social emotional learning and curriculum design. - Project Management degree or certification is preferred.

Previous Experience

- At least ten years of « professional » and / or « higher education » experience in on early childhood development, early childhood education and curriculum design. - Published work in academic journals. - Proficiency assessing and designing curriculum related to social emotional learning. - At least 10 years of « professional » and / or « higher education » experience in social emotional learning and curriculum design. - Proven experience with donor-funded projects is strongly preferred. - Solid knowledge and experience in Preschool Learning Foundations, and Curriculum Frameworks; - Solid Experience of the SEL programs in national and international context. - Proven experience with public sector is a plus.

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, English and French.
