You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme or the final academic year of a first university degree programme.
  • Familiarity with software programmes Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.
  • Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or Kiswahili or Hindi is desirable.
  • Provide all necessary hardware (computer), software and internet connection to perform the internship.
  • Complete a personal history profile and cover note with necessary details.

Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is in the Social Media Section, Communications Campaigns Service, Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for social media activities of the Department of Global Communications and the integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, which are critical component of the Department's communications. Within delegated authority, the public information intern may be responsible for the following duties: - Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of social media content, often under tight deadlines. - Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content. - Gather social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.). - Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. - Attend meetings as an observer. - Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes. - Assist with special projects as assigned. Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please list your area of study. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Familiarity with software programmes Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or graphic design programmes) is desirable. Please list you experience with these or similar programmes. Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English and Portuguese is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Kiswahili or Hindi is desirable.

Intern Specific text

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
