Expected duration

The internship is for three (3) months, with a possibility of extension for three (3) additional months, depending on the needs of the Division and availability of the candidate. The internship is available starting on 1 March 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is in the Social Media Section, Communications Campaigns Service, Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for social media activities of the Department of Global Communications and the integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, which are critical component of the Department's communications. This internship is unpaid. Interns work under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. This internship is designed to be remote and full-time (five days per week - 35 hours). The internship is for three (3) months, with a possibility of extension for three (3) additional months, depending on the needs of the Division and availability of the candidate. Within delegated authority, the public information intern may be responsible for the following duties: - Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of social media content, often under tight deadlines. - Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content. - Gather social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.). - Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. - Attend meetings as an observer. - Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes. - Assist with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). 2. Familiarity with and/or interest in taking digital photographs is desirable. 3. Familiarity with Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or graphic design programmes) is desirable.

Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese, Kiswahili or Hindi is desirable.

Additional Information

Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
