In its drive to improve and increase local and regional food procurement, the volunteers will support in areas of local food commodities procurement modalities with special emphasis on value chain analysis, weekly pricing monitoring, commodities price market assessment and local food basket. The volunteer will in addition, work closely with programme units especially, nutrition and SAMS teams, establishment of list of approved cooperatives unions and work with other related partners such as FAO, Ministry of Agric, Agriculture Transformation Institute, Ethiopia Cooperative Commission, and source reliable statistics to support decision making

Under the direct supervision of Procurement Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Under the direct supervision of the Procurement Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for providing support to partners and other stakeholders to implement an integrated Smallholder farmer procurement process that aims to increase price visibility, productivity, and incomes for smallholder farmers in Ethiopia. Specific tasks will include: • Support in conducting value chain analysis for key commodities in Ethiopia that WFP is interested in for its programme implementations and provide recommendations to Supply chain. • Support in carrying out risk assessment and analysis throughout the value chain under WFP interests for decision making. • Support in weekly pricing monitoring of key value chains of WFP interest to support management decision when it comes to local food procurement. • Conduct commodities price market assessment and provide weekly price analysis. • With support from programme team determine and understand key local food basket commodities and provide prices analysis. • Act as the main coordination between WFP, Ministry of Agriculture, ATI, ECC to strengthen Agri-business Systems and market linkages. • Provide project management support for Agricultural Market Access and Linkage services activities, ensuring a coordinated approach with other WFP programme’s such as Refugees relief and nutrition and supply chain interventions while complying with WFP standards and procedures. • Support with establishment of Food Supplier Agreements for key Cooperative Unions and Aggregators in selected regions with support from Area Offices and Sub-Offices. • Provide support in planning and conducting market assessments and related studies (including process and outcome monitoring) to determine the structure, conduct and performance of markets and in identifying business opportunities for smallholders and appropriate areas for intervention by WFP. • In collaboration with government counterparts and other partners, support the development of strategies for linking farmers to both private and public procurement opportunities and for delivering quality support to smallholders to produce and market their produce competitively. • In close liaison with M&E focal persons at Country Office, support the generation of progress monitoring reports, impact stories, photo images and video clips for social media and participate in the project evaluation and documentation of the lessons learned and best practices. • Support in development of strategies to include women in local and regional procurement processes for local procurement to support women and boost local economy. • Work with WFP registered local SNF/LNS manufacturers and link them with upstream value chain actors such as the smallholder farmers and cooperative unions for supply for raw materials. • Perform other duties as assigned.

The living conditions in Ethiopia - Addis Ababa are consisting of changing weather patterns and the volunteers should be prepared to adapt. Volunteers must be prepared to accept the living conditions to which they are assigned as they will be living under the same conditions as the people with and for whom they work.
