ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

WFP supports over 1.4 million people in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh including over 860,000 Rohingya refugees and host community Bangladeshi under the L2 emergency operation. WFP provides food and nutrition assistance to the entire refugee population in the world’s largest refugee camp as well as school meals, nutrition service, and livelihood support to host communities in Cox’s Bazar.

JOB PURPOSE

This job is located in Ukhiya and reports to facilities Electrical Supervisor.

To conduct electrical installation, maintenance duties and repairs to electrical services at field level as per WFP mandatory standards. To ensure continuity of electrical supply through the installation, repair, maintenance and servicing of diesel power generators and solar powered/hybrid systems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the supervision of the electrical supervisor or their designated subordinate, the incumbent shall be responsible for the following duties:

  • Carry out works to WFP standards for all electricity services, including wiring and sizing standards and maintenance services;
  • Conduct the installation and maintenance of the electrical wiring and distribution systems for all WFP premises as required, ensuring a safe and reliable working environment according to the WFP electrical standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical outages.
  • Provide written requests for materials and keep detailed reports on storage and usage of these materials.
  • Provide advice to concerned parties on technical aspects of installation, modification and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Determine procedures for maintenance, installation, modification and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Inspect work to ensure compliance with standard procedures and electrical assignments.
  • Examine electrical services for proper working procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: A diploma in Electrical Engineering and official certification in electrical installation and maintenance is required.

EXPERIENCE: Four or more years of progressively responsible and proven hands-on electrical experience in planning and executing specialized electrical installations, repair and maintenance of single and three phase industrial and commercial electrical installations up to 1000V.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of the latest standards and regulatory codes for the installation of switch rooms, general service power and lighting, voltage regulators and UPS power systems for office and industrial installations.
  • Skilled in electrical installations using steel and PVC trunkings, steel and PVC conduits, steel cable trays and cable ladder and wire basket cable management systems.
  • Efficient in the installation and methodologies used for steel wire armoured cables up to 240mm.
  • Experienced in the troubleshooting and maintenance of single and three phase generators, diesel or petrol fuelled, in the range of 2 KVA to 250 KVA;
  • Proficient in the installation and methodologies used for steel wire armoured cables up to 240mm.
  • Able to do troubleshooting and maintenance of UPS systems and voltage regulator systems ranging from 0.5 to 160 KVA.
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Experienced in installation, maintenance and repair of window and split type air- conditioning systems.
  • Basic understanding of the installation, repair and maintenance of renewable energy systems. Knowledge of IEC, BS and ANSI standards as they relate to the harmonized colour codes for electrical cables.
  • Skilled in the maintaining and troubleshooting the mechanical part of generators is a plus.
  • Overseas international work experience is desirable.

LANGUAGE : Fluency in both oral and written communication in the English language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different
