At WFP, we are looking for a Site Maintenance Assistant (Electrical) for our office in Khartoum in Sudan to be hired on a Fixed-Term contract at the G5 level.

WFP Sudan, one of the largest and complex operations for WFP globally, is currently rolling out its five-year Country Strategic Plan (2019-2023), which aims to provide emergency assistance through a hybrid approach (Cash, food and vouchers), along with life-changing types of programmes (Nutrition, Resilience and School Feeding).

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in various WFP Offices. Job holders report to the Administration Officer or the designate. They are expected to perform with minimum supervision and carry out specialized installation, maintenance and repair tasks requiring specific training and experience. They usually specialize in electrical wiring of buildings, installation of new electrical components and maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure and devices; or they may lead a team, and/or provide technical supervision and guidance to staff and external contractors on a range of site maintenance services. These jobs require a good physical fit to lift and handle heavy items and work in all types of weather conditions wearing protective clothing.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide a full range of skilful site maintenance services including installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment/appliances to support safe, comfortable and reliable working environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Generators and Main Switch boards:

1.Coordinate the installation of the generators and main switch boards (automatic changeover switch + manual changeover switch + desaturation boards) in all WFP offices, G/Hs + warehouses + workshop + UNHAS offices in airport;

2.Run periodical assessments on the status of the Generators country wide;

3.Develop generators’ and main switchboards’ maintenance plan;

4.Provide technical support and recommendations on the procurement of generators;

5.Calibrate generators for voltage & RPM & frequency & programing in the control screen.

Cabling and Wiring

1.Coordinate the installation for all cabling size (armored cable, flexible cable and single core cable) inside wall by conduit or outside the wall by PVC trunks & cable trays.

Lightings connection and installation works

1.Install internal & external lighting in all offices;

2.Rehabilitate internal & external lighting in all offices;

3.Coordinate the maintenance of all lighting in all WFP location in Sudan;

4.Install and maintain the security lights;

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Demonstrated qualification in electricity. Completion of technical/vocational school or electrical certification is desirable.

Experience: Four or more years of progressively responsible and proven effective experience in planning and executing specialized electrical installations, maintenance and repair work.

Knowledge & Skills: • Good knowledge of how to read and understand blue prints and technical diagrams. • Knowledge of safety precautions. • Ability to inspect and evaluate equipment/appliances and resolve malfunctioning quickly including ability to perform tests and use the results to diagnose problems. • Ability to carry out installation of the equipment/appliances expertly and sometimes under difficult and awkward physical circumstances. • Ability to use hand and power tools. • Ability to multi-task and respond simultaneously and in a timely fashion to job requirements. • Ability to maintain accurate and precise records. • High sense of responsibility and punctuality. • Honesty and integrity. • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and draft various correspondence. • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. • Ability to work in a team and provide technical supervision to other staff. Language: Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
