Simultaneous Interpretation Services – individual contractor

BACKGROUND

UNICEF Iran/other UN agencies has various meetings, seminars and conferences every year. These meetings require urgent and high-quality simultaneous interpretation from English to Persian and vice versa. In order to meet the increasing needs of interpretation, UNICEF Iran/other UN agencies would like to expand the current pool of simultaneous interpretation roster. In view of the above, an updated roster will be required to meet the needs of UNICEF Iran/other UN agencies in this field for 12 months with the possibility to extend for another twelve (12) months.

OBJECTIVE / SCOPE OF WORK

UNICEF is seeking to have an updated roster of interpreters to provide quality, timely and professional interpretation services from English into Farsi and vice versa to be used across the UN in Iran, to

- support accurate and consistent simultaneous interpretation from English to Persian and vice versa.

- establish a professional roster of experienced simultaneous interpreters whom can be reached whenever required.

- harmonize the fees of interpretation for UNICEF/other UN agencies.

- timely response to required service.

METHODOLOGY

The contractors shall do simultaneous interpretation as specified upon request and receipt of duly authorized instruction from UNICEF/other UN agencies.

- UNICEF Iran/other UN agencies will provide a contract, for each task during the contract period describing the nature of job and timeframe.

- The contractor shall sign the contract which is an official agreement between UNICEF Iran/UN agencies and service provider.

- Fees of each request to be agreed upon between the service provider and UNICEF/other UN agencies prior to commencement of assignment, based on a standard ceiling.

- Interpreters shall be at the venue as per time schedules provided by UNICEF//UN agencies.

- The schedule and material related to the interpretation shall be shared with the contractor before the event.

QUALIFICATIONS, SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES

The service provider should possess the following qualifications:

• Minimum five years of professional experience in the field of interpretation’s business and service

• Holding minimum BA degree in English or relating disciplines

• Past work with UN will be an advantage.

• Knowledge of UNICEF terminology will be an advantage

• Experience working with international development organizations is desirable

• Demonstrate effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner

Contractor to observe confidentiality and refrain from divulging any information about the content of UNICEF/other UN agencies contents and discussions within the event. The contractor will work on its own computer(s) and use his/her own office resources and materials.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
