Simultaneous Interpretation Services

Individual Service

1. Background

The UN agencies in Iran have various meetings, seminars, and conferences every year. These meetings require urgent and high-quality simultaneous Interpretation from English to Persian, Arabic to English, Russian to Persian and vice versa. In order to meet the increasing needs of Interpretation, the UN in Iran would like to establish a roster of simultaneous interpreters which will be assessed every two years.

2. Objectives

The UN agencies in Iran is seeking for professional interpreters from English into Farsi, Arabic to English, Russian to Persian or vice versa.

Provide accurate and consistent simultaneous Interpretation from English into Farsi, Arabic to English, Russian to Persian or vice versa.

- Establish a roster of professional simultaneous interpreters. Harmonize the fees of simultaneous interpretation in the UN

- 48 hours response to required service.

3. Description of the Assignment

The contractors shall do simultaneous Interpretation as specified upon request and receipt of duly authorized instruction from the UN agencies.

- The agency will provide a purchase order for each task during the contract period describing the nature of job and timeframe.

- The contractor should sign the Purchase Order which is an official agreement between the UN agency and service provider.

- Fees of each request to be agreed upon between the service provider and the requesting agency prior to commencement of assignment.

- Due to COVID-19, the service might be required online or in person. The service provider should have access to good internet connection with adequate devices to perform the job efficiently.

- Interpreters are required to be present at the venue or online as per the schedule of requesting agency.

4. Expected Deliverables:

Selected applicants will have a test of accent and speed before signing the contract.

5. Reporting Requirements:

Upon completion the service, requesting agency will assess the quality of service, performance, behavior, and instruct the settlement of final invoice.

6. Contract Management:

Management of contract will be under the respective section of every agency. Operations Section will remain the focal point for administrative and financial queries including contract amendment.

7. Proposed Payment Schedule

Upon completion of quality service, the final invoice will be settled in 15 working days.

8. Activities, Deliverables, Indicators, Timeframe, and Schedule of Payment

9. Financial Proposal:

Applicants to include in their financial proposal the rate per 1 hour and per 1 day.

10. Evaluation:

10.1 Technical Evaluation (70 points):

Technical Evaluation Criteria:

Qualification / Max. Points

  • Minimum BA degree in English or relating disciplines / 20
  • Minimum 8 years of working experience in the field of interpretation (Each year 3.75 points maximum) / 30
  • Proficiency in English and Persian is required / 20

Pass Mark for the technical evaluation is 49

10.2 Financial Evaluation (30 points):

The financial proposals will be assessed upon clearing the technical evaluation. The financial proposal will be assessed and scored out of 30 points.

  • Eight years of professional experience in the field of interpretation’s business and service.
  • Proficiency in English and Persian is required.
  • Interpretation experience with the UN is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the terminology of one UN agency is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
