Background

The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (SGP), implemented by United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is a decentralized and country-driven program that seeks to provide maximum country and community-level ownership and initiatives for the achievement of the global environmental benefits. SGP has been operational for the past 30 years supporting projects from Civil Society Organizations in 125 countries. SGP has supported over 21,589 projects globally. SGP’s mandate is to support community-based initiatives by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) including farmers’ organizations, scientific community, women’s groups and the youth and children organizations to address global environmental challenges. To meet its objectives, SGP works closely with government, micro finance institutions, academic and research institutions, private sector, and local authorities. In Vietnam, SGP has been operated since 1999 granting nearly 200 small projects across the nation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will work with and under the supervision of the UNDP GEF SGP Naitonal Coordinator. He/she will perform the following tasks:

  • Closely work with the GEF SGP Naitonal Coordinator and projects in the implementation of the communication activities
  • Collect relevant information, draft articles, and human success stories
  • Document the key activities in the form of photos and short interview clips with beneficiaries and local authorities to highlight the effectiveness of this Component
  • Assist with content creation for the Project’s online platforms (Facebook, Youtube, Plastic web)
  • Support the organization of awareness raising campaigns/activities and public events/activities to promote the Project’s achievements.
  • Support the documentation of media clippings
  • Provide other support for Project communication activities

The intern is encouraged to lead, with guidance from GEF SGP Naitonal Coordinator, to provide the following key results during the internship.

  • Collect relevant information, draft human success stories
  • Document the key activities in the form of photos and short interview clips with beneficiaries and local authorities to highlight the effectiveness of this Component
  • Assist with content creation for the Project’s online platforms (Facebook, Youtube, Project website)

Competencies

Required Skills and Experience

  • a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • Required field of study: journalism, communications, or related fields;
  • Fluent English and Vietnamese — the deliverables must be presented in either or both languages according to the audience;
  • Excellent ability to use basic computer software (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is required. Basic web image, layout and design, and video editing ability are a must;
  • Have good interviewing the local rural people and writing skills;
  • Have good photo taking skills; and
  • Proven track record of experience volunteering or working with a national newspaper is an advantage.

Applicants must also meet one of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
