ORIA’s Refugee Youth Mentoring Program (RYMP) is designed to match eligible youth (ages 18- 24) with mentors who will support successful integration and help youth thrive. This program will support the development of a youth’s social and life skills and provide opportunities for educational and career development.

The Senior Youth Specialist will implement and oversee IRC Spokane’s net-new Refugee Youth Mentoring Program (RYMP) and support the High School Mentoring Program. As the Senior Youth Specialist you will have the unique opportunity to partner with newcomer youth as they develop the skills, resources, and knowledge to pursue their future goals and dreams.

Major Responsibilities:

Refugee Youth Mentorship Program (RYMP)

- Implement and manage this net new program in Spokane. - Conduct outreach, recruit, and enroll eligible youth in the RYMP program. - Provide ongoing and regular case management and coaching services to youth 18-24 years old enrolled in IRC Spokane’s Refugee Youth Mentoring Program (RYMP) focusing on post-secondary education, career readiness, social and civic engagement, and systems navigation. - In partnership with enrolled youth, create individualized service plans and program goals for each participant, centered on youth voice and choice, using a strengths-based approach. - Complete regular case notes, service plan updates, and documentation to support monthly reporting requirements. - Train volunteer mentors and match participating youth with a mentor; monitor and support mentor/mentee relationships. - Plan and facilitate workshops with support from Youth Program Coordinator. - Plan and facilitate social and civic engagement events (field trips, college visits, virtual or in-person college and career panel discussions).

High School Mentorship

- Support IRC Spokane High School Mentorship program by researching resources and building community partnerships. - Support IRC Youth staff working with High Schoolers to develop and execute individualized service plans and problem solve solutions for students. - Plan and facilitate workshops and social events for High School students in mentoring program. - Create safe and healing learning spaces and build supportive relationships with youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds utilizing a trauma informed and culturally responsive approach that promotes positive cultural identity, celebration of diversity, and is continually working towards equity and anti-racism in education.

Resource Development

- Maintain ongoing knowledge of college and career pathways, application processes, financial aid requirements. and options, High School and Beyond Plan requirements, unique college and career programs for newcomer youth from refugee backgrounds. - Research and build knowledge of available services and programs offered within IRC, schools, districts, community colleges, universities, partner agencies, and social service providers, to make referrals and connect youth and families to additional programs and services as needed.

General

- Assist with planning and staffing of youth events. - Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC team. - Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency. - Other related duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

Internal: Resettlement , Volunteer and Development Team, Youth Program, New Roots Program, Health Empowerment Program, Survivor Services Program, Economic Empowerment Program, Immigration Program, and other IRC departments

External: School Districts (Teachers, Admin, etc.), Colleges and Universities, Community Based Organizations, families

Qualifications

- Relevant degree or equivalent experience such as education, case management, social work, youth development, college/career advising, teaching, tutoring, or mentoring. - Relevant program coordination/management experience. - Experience as an educator or navigating educational institutions is desired. - Knowledge and experience with college and career systems navigation desirable, such as high school completion options, college and career pathways, application and financial aid options and requirements, unique college and career programs for newcomer youth from refugee background. - Cross cultural experience; connection and experience working with communities from refugee and/or immigrant backgrounds. - Committed to anti-racism and continual learning and growth. - Experience working with multi-lingual students. - Flexible and adaptable – able to quickly problem solve and change plans and activities according to student need or unexpected circumstances. - Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. - Autonomous and capable of independent problem solving. - Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. - Ability to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom, or willingness to learn. - Fluent in predominant language of local client base desired (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Somali, Swahili, - Kinyarwanda, Ukrainian etc.). - Willing to be First Aid/CPR certified upon hire.

Working Environment:

- Must have evening availability at least 2 days a week to accommodate mentee schedules and appointments. - A full-time schedule at IRC is 37.5 hours per week. Open to negotiating a part-time schedule of between 30-35 hours per week if desired by applicant. - Standard office setting at IRC’s office in Spokane and remote within the Spokane vicinity; Occasional weekend activities as needed. - Access to reliable high-speed internet from home office. - Access to reliable transportation to travel and work off-site at programs (i.e., schools, apartment complexes, etc.).

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
