Description:
FHI 360 is seeking two Senior Nutrition Technical Officers for the EpiC MNCH+N project to be implemented in Zambezia and Nampula provinces, focusing on improving nutrition, maternal, newborn, and child health, and immunization outcomes by increasing the use of and access to high-quality services. The Senior Nutrition Technical Officer will provide technical leadership to ensure the quality, integration, and scale-up of priority nutrition interventions across health facility and community platforms in Zambezia or Nampula
The Senior Nutrition Technical Officer will be responsible for overseeing all nutrition activities in health facilities and the community, including supporting the government and other partners to implement training, guidance, and supportive supervision, particularly for high-impact PIN practices and interventions; ensuring quality in training initiatives and care delivery by PHCs and other providers at the community level; supporting the capacity building of local government to take on clinical supervision to ensure the quality of nutrition-focused care based on specific data from the district and health facilities. This position will be based in Zambezia (1) and Nampula (1) and will report to the Nutrition Technical Advisor.
Accountabilities:
- Provide technical leadership to ensure high-quality implementation of nutrition interventions across health facilities and community platforms.
- Ensure nutrition services are delivered in accordance with national guidelines, protocols, and global best practices, and are effectively integrated within MNCH and immunization services.
- Support the identification and scale-up of high-impact nutrition priority nutrition (PIN) practices within the project areas.
- Provide results-oriented technical guidance to project teams to ensure nutrition activities are implemented as planned and contribute to agreed program outcomes.
- Conduct routine analysis of program performance and service delivery data to identify gaps, quality issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Propose and support the implementation of evidence-based technical adaptations to improve coverage, quality, and effectiveness of nutrition services.
- Monitor and maintain protocols, instruments, data sets, manuals, training materials, and reports related to the technical area of activity.
- Work closely with the team to ensure that project implementation remains technically sound, integrated, aligned, comprehensive, and adheres to the Organization's strategy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct project implementation analysis to identify areas for improvement and propose appropriate technical strategy and guidelines.
- Develop and monitor technical work plans.
- Contribute technical content on nutrition activities and participate in the development of work plans, quarterly and annual reports, and any other reports required by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Affairs.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent in Public Health, Nutrition, Food Security and Nutrition, or other relevant fields
- Preferred backgrounds include a public health nutritionist or nutrition specialist, a public health professional with a nutrition specialization, a medical doctor with strong nutrition and MNCH programming experience, or a nurse or midwife with advanced nutrition training and programmatic experience.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in public health nutrition, and public health, including the Nutrition PIN program.
- Proven leadership experience in supervising and evaluating staff performance
- Experience in designing and implementing training and guidance in the provision of clinical services in nutrition
- Experience in mentoring teams to meet clinical nutrition criteria at district, health facility, and community levels.
- Knowledge of implementing nutrition PIN and PRN interventions at both health facilities and community levels.
- Experience working in Zambezia and Nampula preferred.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with government personnel and community stakeholders.
- Fluency in Portuguese required with oral presentation skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workflow.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt.
- Knowledge of computer software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
