Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Training and Development Section (TDS) in the Division of Specialized Operational Services (DSOS) of the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). The Department of Safety and Security is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programmes and activities of the United Nations System. The Security Training Assistant reports to the Security Training Officer, P4, who leads the Learning Support and Design Team.

Responsibilities 1.Assist in the design, set-up, implementation and administration of the DSS training programmes: •Organizes, maintains and revises security training curricula, as necessary; •Works with training programme managers and instructors in establishing objectives and in planning training courses, schedules, logistics and administrative requirements and ensuring they are integrated into the relevant Learning Management Systems; •Monitors implementation of training strategy and plans and proposes solutions and makes recommendations to streamline the administration of the programme; •Develops evaluation forms for training workshops and seminars; drafts, complies and updates training materials, ensuring that all information is kept complete and up to date; reviews training material; •Prepares forms for training materials and aids used in training seminars, conferences and workshops and ensures appropriate integration into Learning Management Systems and related databases. •Supports training programme managers and instructors in pre-deployment, deployment and post-deployment of online and face-to-face courses; •Liaises with vendor regarding technical and procedural issues regarding the Learning Management System (LMS); and, •Assists in managing the Learning Management System (LMS), posting notes, information and supporting both staff and trainers.

2.Researches security training issues and other matters: •Undertakes research such as collecting information on available external training courses and evaluating their applicability to the needs of the Department; •Conducts specialized subject matter research for security trainers for the development of their specific training curricula and provides recommendations for improvement of courses based on data and lessons learnt; •Assists in the conduct of security training needs assessments by developing and distributing questionnaires and surveys, collecting and following up on responses and compiling summary reports; •Liaises with vendors of Learning Management System (LMS) to collect and produce specialized reports; and, •Collects specialized information for analysis and dissemination and produces reports, as needed for training managers, senior management and the IASMN, HLCM, CEB and other bodies.

3.Organizes and maintains databases and essential information related to the programmes o instruction (POI): •Collects course evaluations; reviews and analyses feedback and recommendations from participants; •Based on evaluations and feedback, drafts summary evaluations which include recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the programme; and, •Sets up and maintains a database of training materials and resources.

4.Supervises General Service staff supporting the LMS.

5.Performs other assignments as required.

Education A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience A minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in administrative and office support functions is required, of which at least one year of qualifying experience in the field of training and development is required. Experience in verbal and written communication skills in a training environment are required. Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS), such as Totara and/or Moodle, is desirable. Experience supervising projects and teams is desirable. At least one year of experience and exposure at the international level is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
