Organizational Setting

The post is located in the Security Services at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Security Services aim to assure a safe and secure operating environment and ensure continuity of operations in FAO headquarters and in the field, by protecting the integrity of premises and assets and the security of staff members and other subjects present in the FAO premises from harmful acts and accidents or natural and technological hazards.

Main Purpose

The Senior Security Guard performs a variety of routine duties that contribute to the safety of staff, visitors, premises and assets at FAO.

Supervision Received/Exercised

The Senior Security Guard works under the overall guidance of the Chief, Security Services, and the direct supervision of a Security Officer. When applicable, he/she receives guidance on a daily basis by the Security Supervisor (Lieutenant). Supervision received provides for technical support and on-the-job learning. The incumbent may coordinate more junior security staff.

Working Relationships

The Senior Security Guard is exchanging security-relevant information with staff, visitors, and security teams in following and monitoring technical and administrative security requests and procedures.

Key Functions/Results

• Receive personal documents and issue building passes and parking permits; respond to routine inquiries and provide information or redirect as appropriate; maintain up-to-date directories, receive and log mail after normal business hours. • Lead patrols in assigned areas included in parking area; detain and accompany any persons acting unlawfully to the Security Supervisor on duty; control, by means of verification of building passes, the entry of all persons into FAO premises, refer any irregularities to the Security Assistant (Lieutenant) on duty; call taxis for FAO staff/non staff, visitors and delegates. • Ensure that security measures are observed at the entrances/exits on FAO premises relating to the control of the removal of FAO; maintain continuous surveillance against fire, water leakage, the deposit of dangerous objects or any other action; perform prescribed safety measures. • Receive VIP visitors and high-level officials and provide appropriate security assistance. • Be responsible for 'Lost/Found' by either supplying information or issuing relevant receipt. • Monitor the internal alarm system on site and cameras; alert operating and emergency staff, as appropriate. • In the Control Room, monitor the video and electronic control surveillance systems; alert Guards through the radio system to security risk situations and advise on appropriate action to be taken; call the emergency services, if required. • Receive urgent communication and refer issues to the responsible Assistant Security Supervisor (Sergeant). • Perform other related duties as required.

Impact Of Work

The Senior Security Guard participates as part of a team in the provision of security support services. Actions reflect on the clients served and on the immediate and wider work unit.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Secondary School Education Experience: Four years of experience with a national or international police force, armed forces, a private security organization, fire brigade or security service of a large organization, or in a position requiring high security, confidentiality and total integrity Languages: Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and Italian IT Skills: Basic knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment

Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. "Commuting distance" means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.
