Assist in the implementation of Shelter/NFI construction activities.

You have:

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering, Architect or a related field from an accredited academic institution with 2 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architect or a related field from an accredited academic institution with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in construction design, usage of structural design and analysis of software are required.
  • Experience in the usage of CAD drafting is required.
  • Experience in shelter design analysis, design, review is required.
  • Experience with International Organizations and/or NGOs is an advantage.
  • Experience in camp rehabilitation and site development is an advantage.
  • Experience working within the region is an advantage.
  • Experience in the usage of spreadsheets and data analysis is an advantage.

Contract

This is a G-6 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 6 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-6 contracts.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer and overall supervision of the Programme Manager (Shelter/NFI) in Cox’s Bazar and in coordination with the relevant unit the incumbent will assist the concern programme unit for implementation of the programme.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

1. Assist Shelter/NFI Project Officer in the implementation of Shelter/NFI construction activities, including field assessments, technical drawings, bill of quantities preparation, procurement support, stock management of materials and tools/equipment, construction works monitoring and reporting, etc. 2. Assist in the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for internal, external or as built quantity estimates. Contribute to drafting detailed designs using CAD software. 3. Undertake regular field visits to project intervention areas to review implementation and supervision of the civil works, and contribute to resolving any issues arising and prepare subsequent monitoring and progress reports, 4. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Shelter/NFI staff, helping them develop their technical skills and knowledge. Share expertise and experience to assist in their professional growth. 5. Ensure that project records are maintained adequately, such as field assessment data, stock records, training and labour attendance sheets, progress reports, and coordinate the compilation of documents required for project implementation. 6. Represent IOM Shelter/NFI Programme in relevant field coordination meetings and maintain programmatic relationships with refugee and community representatives, NGO partners, government authorities, and other relevant actors at the field level. Take minutes of the meeting and keep track of those action points for follow-up and reporting purposes. 7. Contribute to the preparation of periodic reports covering project aspects such as progress, financial status, quality control, schedule compliance, technical aspects, and recommendations. 8. Assist in the evaluation of tenders, including assessing the qualifications, competency, and experience of bidders, as well as analyzing and reviewing quoted unit rates against IOM-prepared cost estimates. 9. Ensure an adequate internal coordination with the different IOM Units (Site Management, Site Development, WASH, Infrastructure, etc.) for the implementation of the IOM Shelter/NFI Programme. 10. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in construction of shelters, including emerging technologies and sustainable design practices. 11. Conduct quality control checks to ensure that construction designs and calculations are accurate and adhere to industry standards. Review drawings and specifications for errors or inconsistencies. 12. Foster a collaborative and creative work environment by actively participating in team discussions, design reviews, and problem-solving sessions. Share insights and contribute to solutions for complex design challenges. 13. Prioritize safety in designs and construction processes. Identify potential risks or issues in projects and work to mitigate them. 14. Undertake any additional duties as assigned.
