**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Almaty Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Level 3 Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 15-AUG-2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism ***(Only candidates who are entitled to work in Kazakhstan may apply to this position)*** **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Office in Almaty, direct supervision of the Programme Specialist, Natural Sciences unit, and in close coordination with the Responsible officer for GGRETA (“Governance of Groundwater Resources in Transboundary Aquifers”) project in Water Sciences division at UNESCO HQ, the incumbent shall contribute to the implementation of the GGRETA Project’s Pretashkent Transboundary Aquifer, between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In particular, the incumbent shall perform the following key functions: A. Provide input to the project implementation: 1. Ensure and contribute to the implementation of the project: draft the workplans and budgets in accordance with the project components, and plan the activities, including based on COVID-19 related situation and restrictions; 2. Draft, follow-up and maintain quality of contracts within the timeframe of the budget authorization; draft reports within the project monitoring and evaluation frameworks; 3. Perform with the necessary documentation, such as conduct research, compile, review and update information, data and reports used in the development of documents, workplans and budgets; process data in/from automated systems in order to support preparation of regular and budgetary/financial updates, report on project delivery, statistics; 4. Assist in coordination of project stakeholders’ participation in larger global groundwater events, and perform the organization of meetings, workshops and any other events organized in the framework of the project. B. Provide input to the project financial and administrative management: 1. Coordinate and ensure project-related logistics (including contract- and travel-related arrangements); 2. Provide input for the preparation of all administrative and financial information pertaining to the project; 3. Draft financial-administrative documentation; initiate administrative procedures and ensure follow-up; monitor the budget, review requests for payments against contractual obligations, and provide information on payment status and remaining obligations to supervisor. Long Description ---------------- C. Contribute to maintaining smooth communication with project stakeholders: 1. Ensure smooth, timely and effective communication with the project stakeholders at local/national/international levels; 2. Facilitate contacts with UNESCO's partners and UN organizations: draft correspondence, answer queries. Liaise with other UNESCO Field Offices and HQ services as needed for the implementation of the project; 3. Liaise with National Commissions, national partners and Headquarters on administrative and financial matters, as requested. D. Contribute to the preparation of publications, translations, records, press releases and outreach efforts: 1. Provide inputs for publications, presentations, briefings, speeches and missions, including outreach and visibility materials and social media posts, as needed. E. Undertake any other related tasks or assignment requested for the successful implementation of the Project and Programme.
