This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Programme Policy Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Senior Programme Associate will:

  • Provide efficient coordination of WFP in-kind food distributions to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures;
  • Prepare a variety of elaborated reports and substantial data analysis on WFP in-kind operation (e.g. programme status, performance) and make recommendations to supervisors, ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control;
  • Ensure accurate, timely recording of data and consistency of information and narrative inputs presented to stakeholder;
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal counterparts in particular the Partnerships, Supply Chain, IT, VAM, M&E and Finance Units, to enable effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities;
  • Foster relationships and support partnership-building with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to ensure efficient delivery of food assistance. Act as an escalation point for complex query resolution on all matters within the area of responsibility;
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis;
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Security, Agriculture or any related functional area.

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in implementing and coordinating programmes with increased level of responsibility;
  • Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Participation in implementing and coordinating distribution programs is desired;
  • Experience in implementing projects addressing food security of vulnerable population is an asset;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
