The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking a multiskilled and tech-savvy candidate to join its office in Lahore, Pakistan, as a Senior Officer - Web Development, Database and System Administration.

The incumbent is responsible for the smooth running of the cloud and local database servers at the IWMI Pakistan office. IWMI has deployed a significant amount of instrumentation in the field across Pakistan. The incumbent will ensure the data received from the field instrumentation is properly archived, processed, and made available through various reporting services. This requires database management and programming skills, script writing, knowledge of SQL, distributed, relational and network databases, Python, and object-oriented programming skills.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all data management activities in the country office and liaise with HQ IT team as needed to ensure the activities carried out are in line with IWMI policies and procedures.
  • Act as the focal point for queries regarding data management and address the raised requests and queries in a timely manner.
  • Review all data repositories and develop and implement a plan to archive data systematically and accessibly, complying with IWMI guidelines and policies on data acquisition and backups.
  • Provide support to IT teams in HQ and country office in managing and maintaining servers, firewalls, and instrumentation networks.
  • Support the instrumentation work at IWMI office in Lahore and field locations as required.
  • Undertake fieldwork as required to collect primary and secondary data, specifically concerning in-situ electronic instrumentation, but may also include social and biophysical data.
  • Undertake other relevant assignments as assigned by the management.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential,

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of highly relevant experience including providing IT support, instrumentation installation, and troubleshooting functions.

Desirable,

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Essential,

  • Excellent knowledge of managing Windows servers (both local and cloud), data backup and restoration.
  • Excellent programming skills in contemporary languages such as VB, C#, Python, etc.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including developing SSIS packages, database maintenance, triggers, etc.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated effective teamwork skills.
  • Sound personal organization and priority-setting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written language skills in English & Urdu, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Pakistani nationals will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
