UNOPS Brazil supports partners in their international cooperation activities through emergency humanitarian response actions, by donating food, medicines and other essential items to countries in crisis or vulnerable situations. The Nutrition Specialist will primarily provide technical support to projects related to humanitarian cooperation initiatives.

Functional Responsibilities

*Para mais informações, consulte o documento anexo a esta vaga Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Senior Nutrition Officer will be responsible for performing the following functions:

  • Support technically in planning and defining the food to be donated on a humanitarian basis.
  • Structure, draft and review technical documents related to the area of expertise, ensuring that the food purchased and its transportation meet the standards and laws in force, and consider the context of humanitarian cooperation.
  • Develop terms of reference for food procurement and transportation, according to UNOPS procurement policies, as well as current standards and laws.
  • Integrate evaluation committees of bidding processes related to your area of expertise.
  • Establish the technical specifications for procurement processes, ensuring the quality levels applicable to the case, and considering the adequacy to the humanitarian context. Develop the planning and prepare budget estimates and schedules for the activities related to the acquisition of food.
  • Analyze and follow up the contracting of specialized services.
  • Formally present the consolidated products in meetings, when necessary.
  • Evaluate and systematize the contributions made by the interested parties to the products developed.
  • Participate presentially and/or by video in meetings and technical visits necessary for the development and validation of the products.
  • Prepare minutes of technical meetings, when necessary. Ensuring the dialogue with the recipients so that they are technically prepared to receive the items, if necessary.

The contractor may eventually work together with other consultants in the development of the products, as required by UNOPS.

The contractor must keep his/her individual production for the development of the requested products documented.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

a) Education - Undergraduate degree, preferably in Nutrition or related field. - Post graduate degree or specialization in Clinical Nutrition or Food Industry/Food Engineering will be considered a plus.

b) Experience

  • Have a minimum of 4 years of experience in Clinical Nutrition or Foodservice Nutrition.
  • Experience in production, quality control and regulatory affairs in the field of Nutrition in the Production Chain and Industry will be considered a plus.
  • Experience in providing service or consulting to international organizations will be valued.
  • Working knowledge of Office Package (MS Project, Excel, Word and Outlook) or Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Gmail) is required.

c) Languages

  • Complete fluency in Portuguese (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Intermediate level reading, writing and oral communication in English is a must

Contract type, level and duration

  • Contract type: Local Individual Contract Agreement (LICA)
  • Contract level: Specialist - Level 9
  • Contract duration: 12 months, with possibility of renewal.

*In this modality, the maximum number of days to work during the contract period is established and products are requested, which are calculated based on this number of days. UNOPS will inform the consultant each time his/her services are required according to a specific work plan. Only the days actually worked and previously agreed upon will be paid.

CRITERION: It is mandatory to have Brazilian nationality or a valid working visa that is not linked to UNOPS.
