Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Logistics, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping missions around the world.

This position is located within the Delivery and Return Section. in Supply Chain of the United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) in Brindisi, Italy.

The Senior Logistics Officer reports to the Chief of the Supply Chain Service.

This position focuses primarily on logistics processes and activities related to warehousing, assets management, including assets returns and refurbishment, inbound and outbound deliveries, as well as on inter-entity assets transfers.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Senior Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

Logistics support with focus on reverse logistics and global assets management for new, ongoing, and liquidating field missions and entities includes client support, supply management, inventory management, cold and ultra-cold chain operations, transportation, maintenance & repair, contracts, and services management.

  • Exercises managerial and supervisory control over all logistics support required by future, current or liquidating field missions.

  • Develops, prepares, coordinates and monitors overall logistic support plans including logistics forecasting, priorities or requirements, and resolution of urgent operational needs.

  • Monitors and coordinates all multifunctional logistic requirements between UNGSC, peacekeeping, other field missions, and other clients.

  • Assists in development of policy and procedures for field logistics support.

  • Acts as the principal liaison between the field missions and Headquarters staff for logistics matters and co-ordinates day to day support of logistics operations.

  • Ensures overall planning and coordination of logistics support preparations for new field missions and expanded civilian and military peacekeeping operations administered by Department of Peace Operations (DPO).

  • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.

  • Advises senior management on logistics management, structures and staffing levels to ensure that they are at all times adequate to meet the requirements of the logistics strategy.

  • Leads technical survey missions.

  • Organises and chairs logistics meetings.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Manages and supervises mission start-up or mission liquidation teams and missions.

  • Manages and coordinates a multifunctional logistics operation at the UNGSC.

  • Chairs or is a member of administrative and financial bodies.

  • Assumes responsibilities of a certifying officer.

Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A professional certification in Supply Chain Management (CSCP or equivalent) is desirable.

A certification in SCOR-P (Supply Chain Operations Reference Model) is desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in Supply chain or logistics operations in military, commercial or international organisations, or related area is required. Experience in Reverse Logistics is required. Experience in change management, process re-engineering, business transformation, and business improvements is required. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning system such as SAP is desirable. Experience in applying International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) accounting rules is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
