You have:

  • Completion of secondary degree (High School Diploma or equivalent) is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or University Level Courses in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related fields are desirable.
  • A minimum of 7 years of work experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Analytics, Data Science, Data Analysis, and related technologies.
  • Certification or proven experience in technical competencies including Python, Airflow, Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, Azure Data Lake, SQL Databases, Delta Lake, Power BI, Plotly.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese or Russian) is an asset.

Contract

The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally through innovative technology-enabled solutions.

UNICEF is going through an exciting digital transformation that will influence the work of the entire organization. As part of this transformation, UNICEF has opened a new ICTD Digital Core office in Valencia, Spain to execute ICTD’s digital strategy across all UNICEF locations globally.

The Senior ICT Associate (Data Analytics) is in the Connectivity, Communications and Collaboration (CCC) Unit of the ICTD Digital Core, Platforms and Service Delivery Section in Valencia, Spain. The CCC unit is the global architecture and engineering lead for UNICEF’s global corporate network and unified communications portfolio.

The position is under the supervision of the ICT Specialist (Data Analytics) at the P-3 level.

How can you make a difference?

The Senior ICT Associate leverages data extracted from or generated by UNICEF’s Platform and Service Delivery systems to deliver rich, insightful, interactive data experiences and business intelligence to UNICEF offices and divisions. These insights provide senior management and service managers with strategic decision-making information and can help uncover opportunities for operational efficiency and effectiveness in the areas of Internet connectivity, networks, unified communications, cybersecurity, and client/server infrastructure. The position also supports the deployment, administration and maintenance of data platforms, tools and solutions for UNICEF offices and divisions globally.

Key responsibilities:

1. Based on the organization’s goals and priorities, support the creation of business intelligence solutions and data tools to inform data-driven business decisions.

• Assist in the design and implementation of data processing tools and data visualizations to uncover relevant trends, hidden patterns, and actionable insights in support of operational efficiency, effectiveness, and improved levels of service. • Assist in the creation and maintenance of ETL processes (Extract, Transform and Load) and data pipelines using Python, Airflow, Databricks, Azure Machine Learning and Azure Data Lake. • Prepare and publish technical guidelines and hardware/software standards related to business intelligence solutions, data platforms and tools in the Platform and Service Delivery portfolio. • Stay abreast of trends, developments, and best practices in the field of data analytics. • Liaise with solution vendors to follow-up on technical, feature-related or roadmap issues. • Assist in coordinating data platform and tool updates, new releases and applying upgrades.

2. Assist in the deployment, administration, maintenance and support of data platforms, tools and solutions for UNICEF offices and divisions globally.

• Support the roll out of data platforms, tools, and solutions (Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, etc.) to UNICEF offices and divisions. • Assist in administrative tasks on data platforms, tools and solutions rolled out under the Platform and Service Delivery portfolio. • Assist in preparing and publishing technical guidelines and hardware/software standards related to data platforms, tools, and solutions in the Platform and Service Delivery portfolio.

3. Provide 2nd level technical support for global business intelligence solutions, data tools and platforms released as part of the Platform and Service Delivery portfolio.

• Provide 2nd tier technical support on data and analytics tools and services, including platform and back-end issues. • Debug issues as required. Reproduce issues in the lab when appropriate. • Liaise with the Global Shared Services Centre and other ICTD units as required for support, problem coordination and resolution.

4. Support administrative tasks related to projects, field communications, coordination, capacity building, and knowledge management.

• Help facilitate the procurement of data analytics tools products and services by providing the required technical details and justifications. Liaise and follow-up with the Supply Division as necessary. • When required, conduct field office information gathering exercises and surveys in the context of data and analytics projects. • Assist in the coordination and delivery of webinars, training workshops and clinics to build local IT and end-user capacity and to introduce innovative solutions and services. • Contribute to the content of ICTD Platform and Service Delivery and project SharePoint sites in the form of rollout calendars, rollout status, technical guidelines, Q & A, and lessons learned.

Professional Experience: • A minimum of 7 years of work experience is required, including at least 5 years of progressing responsible experience in the field of Analytics, Data Science, Data Analysis, and related technologies.

Technical Skills: • Certification or proven experience in several of the following ICT technical competencies is required: Python, Airflow, Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, Azure Data Lake, SQL Databases, Delta Lake, Power BI, Plotly • Knowledge of common scripting languages for automating Windows and General IT operations is desirable.

Language Requirements: • Fluency in English is required. • Knowledge of another official UN language (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese or Russian) is an asset.
