Job Description

IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. One aspect of the IRC is to provide assistance to refugees resettling in the United States. The IRC opened an office in Phoenix, Arizona in 1994 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees. The office resettles refugees and provides numerous program services to assist refugees from their arrival through citizenship.

Job Overview:

The Senior Financial Coach will provide support and leadership for IRC’s contracted management of the City of Sacramento’s Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), under the supervision of the IRC FEC Program Manager. The Senior Financial Coach will serve as a team lead to coordinate and provide financial counseling/coaching services for FEC clients, design and deploy programming, develop key partnerships, ensure data QA, monitor and contribute to grant progress, and provide leadership on the FEC team.

Client Services

- Provide financial coaching to a caseload of clients to achieve a variety of personal financial goals including budgeting, establishing a bank account, taking out loans, building/maximizing savings, establishing credit, as well as advanced asset building topics (e.g., analyzing credit reports, strategizing techniques to build credit and reduce debt, etc.) - Assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client. - Collect, track and report required data using client management database; - Participate in initial trainings and ongoing professional development trainings; - Follow required protocol and program requirements; - Successfully complete and pass counselor training. - Regularly meet with other FEC sites, staff and the FEC Program Manager. - Participate in FEC-wide events and initiatives. - Use FEC Database and ETO as assigned to track client services, outcomes, and metrics. - Exercise a high level of organizational skill and tracking ability to document in detail eligibility, enrollment and outcomes information for program participants. - Other duties as assigned.

Program Support

- Assist FEC Program Manager with QA to ensure data integrity and alignment with funder’s guidelines - Actively train new and existing FEC staff members on financial topics, coaching skills, and data capture and management - Keep track of and adhere to the program budget - Other duties as assigned.

Partnership Development

- Oversee client assessment and referrals from internal IRC programs and external providers - Liaise with referral agencies to streamline and improve upon referral processes - Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wraparound supports (i.e. benefits, tax preparation) into counseling to achieve greater results; - Connect with banks and other institutions to provide group trainings and banking sessions to FEC clients - Maintain sound relationships with partner institutions/organizations - Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- A BA degree from an accredited college or four years of relevant work experience with some background in finance, financial education, counseling/coaching, or social service delivery; - At least five years of experience providing financial education and coaching to vulnerable populations;

- Extensive experience in the banking or finance industry a plus - Dynamic, committed individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for supporting people with low incomes to build greater financial stability. - Excellent interpersonal skills: the ability to work effectively with partners and colleagues in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment; - Track record of exceeding program outcomes in previous work experience; - Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines; - Excellent writing and verbal communication abilities; - Highly organized self-starter with demonstrated success in managing multiple and diverse priorities, as well as balancing competing deadlines and projects; - Strong Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; - Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area. - Strategic thinking, with thoughtful, thorough, and detailed follow through. - Language skills in Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Ukrainian, Hmong, Russian and Spanish a plus. - Comfortable with taking initiative; effective, collaborative worker; able to retain focus while multi-tasking. - Ability to function effectively within protocols and challenges of operating within a high-profile local government program. - Attention to detail and production of quality work, along with ability to work quickly and under pressure. - Experience with large datasets and data management preferred.

Working Environment: Standard office environment including regular travel to employer sites.
