Signpost is an innovative digital initiative providing the humanitarian community with a platform to reach refugees, asylum seekers and crisis-affected communities around the world with accessible information. Julisha.info is part of the global signpost initiative, taking a holistic approach to address information needs in Kakuma, Dabaab and Nairobi. Julisha is a useful information resource for people in need, fosters more in-depth community, more trust, and, most importantly, more utility for its users.

Job Overview:

IRC is seeking a Senior Editorial Officer, under the direct supervision of the Protection Manager and will collaborate with the Julisha.Info teams in Nairobi and the Hagadera and Kakuma refugee camps. The Senior Editorial Officer will be responsible for development, management, and dissemination of quality, verified, relevant information on Julisha.info. The position is integral within the Julisha team and will work closely with moderators in publishing content through digital and other diverse channels based on need and responding to clients’ information needs.

Major Responsibilities:

- Publish relevant and appropriate content on Julisha.info. - Ensure Julisha.Info content is accurate, complete, easy to understand and engaging. - Collaborate on, edit written and multimedia content built by Julisha team (Moderators, Service mapping officer) and partner organizations. - Monitor traffic and other feedback emanating from Julisha.Info channels. - Use the Zendesk Content Management System (CMS) Canva, Lumen5 and other tools to prepare content for publication. - Coordinate, update, and handle the Julisha.Info visual and style guide. - Ensure the Julisha.Info content database and calendar are up to date. - Support moderators with publishing posts on Facebook and other media. - Contribute to drafting reports on Julisha content and work collaboratively across teams, departments, locations and organizations. - Work with Information Technology team to resolve technical issues across platforms.

Staff Support

- Provide technical guidance, on the job mentoring and coaching for the moderators. - Ensure ongoing training and targeted capacity building of Julisha.Info staff including appraisals. - Review performance of Moderators in the field and provide encouraging approaches to address issues identified.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Protection Manager. Position Directly Supervises: Moderators. Indirect Reporting: Protection Coordinator, Field Coordinator. Other Internal and/or external contacts: Julisha team (Moderators, Service mapping officer), IRC Protection and Rule of Law team, IT/Helpdesk team.

Qualifications Work Experience:

- Approximately four to six years of substantial experience in editing, sub-editing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques and copy editing. - Experience working with a humanitarian organization. - Experience working in handling and updating digital media and websites. - Experience in multimedia content development. - Working knowledge of a range of digital design and editing software (Canva, Lumen5 etc).

Demonstrated skills and Competencies:

- Experience with navigating online systems to complete work. - Knowledge of social media strategies and community engagement. - Knowledge of online content standard processes. - Knowledge and experience of running websites and social media platforms.

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, Media, Public information, or another relevant field.

Language Skills:

- Advanced English language skills, oral and written.

Preferred experience & skills:

- Experience in digital content creation such as articles, videos and infographics. - Strong writing and proofreading skills. - Passion for writing. - Strong interpersonal and time-management skills; shown ability to prioritize and deliver on time. - Great attention to detail. - Strong analytic problem-solving skills. - Ability to work both independently and in a multifaceted, cross-functional team. - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
