Your team You will be part of the EU Institutions and Fora Division in the Directorate General International and European Relations.

Our division prepares the ECB’s policy positions and conducts analytical work on topical EU institutional and policy issues, often in close coordination with other ECB business areas. Our policy work focuses on strengthening and deepening the Economic and Monetary Union through enhancing economic governance and completing the banking and capital markets unions. This includes work on other EU policy priorities, such as the digital euro. In addition, we act as the primary point of contact for other EU institutions. We coordinate activities related to the ECB’s accountability for central banking and supervisory tasks, which involves close interaction with the European Parliament. We also lead the ECB’s preparations for meetings of the European Council, the Eurogroup and the ECOFIN Council.

In your role as Senior Economist, you will join a team of about 22 members of staff. You will contribute to shaping and furthering the ECB's policy positions on key EU institutional and policy issues. You will also conduct relevant analytical and empirical work to underpin these positions. You will work closely with other ECB business areas.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role As a Senior Economist you will:

- conduct analyses and develop tools within the Division’s fields of expertise, including but not limited to EU economic governance; - prepare briefings, speeches, presentations, analytical notes and articles; - contribute to ECB publications and external communications; - coordinate the preparation of the ECB’s participation in high-level EU meetings; - represent the ECB at a technical level at external meetings; - maintain relations with EU institutions and monitor their activities.

We are seeking candidates for this role who demonstrate the potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidate in their future development of the required knowledge, skills or competencies.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to work close to the frontline of policymaking in high-level EU fora and contribute to shaping ECB policy positions on topical issues. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills Essential:

- a master’s degree or equivalent in economics, political science, international relations, finance or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences); - in addition to the above, a minimum of seven years’ professional experience at the level of an economist in the field of EU policies (or three years’ professional experience at the level of an economist plus a relevant PhD); - professional experience gained at a European institution; - sound analytical skills, including experience in applied policy-relevant research projects; - a good understanding of the foundations of the Economic and Monetary Union; - proven experience in coordinating and drafting notes and briefings; - an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

- a PhD in economics, political science, international relations, finance or a related field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences).

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.

You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.

Working modalities We would be happy to discuss a part-time arrangement for this role.
