Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the Resident Representative and in coordination with the Executive Associate, the Senior Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the senior officials in the CO and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Upon special request from supervisor, the senior driver could also provide driving services to the operations and programme staff in the CO, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission. Incumbent may also be required to provide light clerical support (I.e. inventory services, logging receipts etc) on ad-hoc basis.

Incumbent is expected to display initiative, a positive approach and a strong client orientation. As such, s/he is expected to be flexible in performing other emerging tasks and additional duties as required by direct supervisor or senior management

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

  1. Provision of reliable and secure driving services to high level UN officials and related support to protocol and security processes.
  2. Proper use of vehicle
  3. Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
  4. Availability of documents/ supplies
  5. Steadfastly observe rules and regulations related to accidents.

  6. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services and related support to protocolary and security processes and paperwork by

  • Driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDP of high-ranking UN officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and another items;
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
  • Process documentation related to visas, residency, government clearances, security and customs as required by senior management and supervisor.
  • When required, and in coordination with Administrative Unit, support inventory processes and other light clerical ties.

2. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.

4. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.

5. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Secondary Education.
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Experience:

  • 3 years’ work experience as a driver.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Security training highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  • Skills in minor vehicle repair.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Command of another UN language desirable.
