Only recommended candidates will be retained on roaster for a period of two years and may be considered for similar positions from roaster.

The salary for this position is non-taxable (subject to medical and pension deduction). The incumbent will be entitled to benefits related medical, pension, leave as per WFP policy.

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide efficient and safe driving transportation to the Office Director, Senior WFP staff, high ranking UN officials or visitors, and/or provide support in coordination of transport related services and planning overall maintenance of vehicles.

The incumbent will serve as Senior Driver and work under the supervision of Administrative Assistant and overall supervision of the Administration Officer and will be responsible for the following duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Not all inclusive)

  1. Provide safe and reliable driving services to the Office Director, high-ranking UN officials, Senior-level Officials transportation to senior WFP staff and other authorized personnel and visitors. high ranking UN officials and visitors including translation of basic conversations from English/to the local language (Hindi), and the delivery and collection of various items following authorized routing and UN safety and security rules and regulations to ensure safe and efficient services.
  2. Plan, coordinate and assign the routes and schedules for other Drivers on a daily basis, to ensure efficient transport related services to the officials.
  3. Meet and greet officials and visitors at the airport or other entry points and provide assistance with visa and customs formalities, protocol, where necessary, to facilitate smooth and safe entry and arrival to the authorised destinations.
  4. Responsible for accurate maintenance of the daily vehicle log books, and daily reporting to the supervisor on mechanical status to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption supporting accurate accounting and cost-efficiency. Providing accurate data regarding official vehicles for updating in WFP corporate systems.
  5. Efficiently plan and coordinate day-to-day maintenance of WFP assigned vehicles ; undertake timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, to ensure vehicle is clean and in good running condition at all times.
  6. Ensure availability of all the required authorizations, supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit and other MOSS vehicle compliant equipments and necessary spare parts in assigned vehicles are fully equipped in a good condition to support safe and efficient services.
  7. Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of registrations and insurance procedures for all the office vehicles.
  8. Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in cases of an accident, and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems, to seek for instructions and facilitate informative decisions on the way forward.
  9. Alternate Focal point for Fleet Management Service (FMS) to ensure effective and efficient fleet management; that fuel and other data are recorded n time
  10. Perform outside driving duties to ensure administrative support to officials in basic office related tasks such as assisting staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required. Assist in all mailing services including collection, distribution of documents and publications and payment of office telephone and other bills.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS****:

Education:

  • Completed Secondary school, technical and/or vocational education.
  • A valid driver license is required to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.

Experience:

Minimum Three (3) or more years of relevant work experience as a Driver preferably in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record.

Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorized vehicles.

Experience in defensive driving is desirable.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Good knowledge of diplomatic protocol and courtesies and security issues. Ability to present professional image at all times.

  • Excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, local routes, roads and conditions. Demonstrate good road etiquette.

  • Good knowledge of maintenance of vehicles and knowledge of mechanics and repair of vehicles.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.) and knowledge of first aid basic methods.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.

  • Knowledge and ability to use radio, , GPS and basic computer skills
  • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitivity and non -discriminatory behavior and attitudes.
  • Ability to demonstrate high sense of responsibility and deal calmly/tactfully with unexpected circumstances or delays with officials.
  • Ability to strictly maintain discretion and respect for confidentiality.
  • Orientation to learn and share knowledge in a team environment.

Language: Level (C) English and Hindi language is required.
