Organizational Setting

FAO Afghanistan is investing, across all 34 provinces, in resilience reinforcing actions that focus on protecting agriculture livelihoods and local ecosystems, boosting local production of nutritious foods and cash-incomes, and safeguarding critical agriculture sectoral development gains achieved over the past couple of decades through revitalizing rural markets and economy. In 2023, FAO will contribute to the humanitarian components of the UN Strategic Framework 2023-2025 through four priority actions: (i) Safeguarding Wheat Seed Security, (ii) Enhancing Local Production of Nutritious Food, (iii) Livestock Protection and Dairy Sector Support, and (iv) Restoring Irrigation Structures to Boost Cash Incomes. FAO will also contribute towards resilience building activities and longer-term transformational processes as part of the implementation of the UN Strategic Framework 2023-2025.

The post is located in the FAO Representation in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Main Purpose

The Senior Driver (Coordinator) is responsible for driving Country Office Staff of FAO Representations/Regional Offices and visitors. He/she also provides other transportation related and messenger services for the Country Office Staff of FAO Representations/Regional Offices.

Supervision Received/Exercised

The incumbent works under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the functional supervisor.

Working Relationships

In his/her function as Senior Driver (Coordinator) for the relevant office, the incumbent is in regular contact with national and international visitors, including high ranking officials from the Government and other UN agencies, with project managers, consultants and other personnel from within and outside the Organization. He/she is often the first point of contact for people from outside the country office. He/she interacts on a day-to-day basis with personnel and officials from local offices and service providers. The Senior Driver (Coordinator) interacts on a regular basis with all FAO drivers based in Kabul and when required, with drivers and managers in other FAO offices in Afghanistan.

Key Functions/Results

• Coordinate drivers in Kabul, to ensure their availability in support of smooth operations in FAO Afghanistan; • Maintain up to date servicing record of FAO vehicles and report any irregularity; • Monitor the general condition of FAO vehicles, oversee and follow-up the needed maintenance. Maintain full accurate records and share the applicable reports as needed or requested; • Assist the administrative staff in regular monitoring of the log books and maintenance records; • Monitor fuel consumption and repairs across all Afghanistan offices; • Keep a monthly and weekly records of logistics and transport operations in the country; • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, transportation/vehicle related expenditures, vehicle servicing, repairs, etc.; • Coordinate with Security Unit to ensure that Minimum Operating Security Standards for all movements are in place; • Organize and schedule daily logistics operations to support on-time suppliers' delivery and transportation; • Ensure that the local transportation needs of the FAO employees are met at all times and ensures the safety, technical soundness and comfort of the vehicle(s); • Organize drivers schedule for travel and field missions as required; • Brief and train the drivers in all the above duties and responsibilities; • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Secondary school education. Possession of valid driver's license. Experience: Four years of work experience as a driver. Flawless, safe driving record. Languages: Limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of English and of one of the local languages (Pushto and Dari).

Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit, and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. "Commuting distance" means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.

• Ability to coordinate all office transportation needs and the pool of drivers. • Relevant experience in logistics and transportation operations. • Good record keeping skills. • Limited command of computers, and MS Office applications.
