Organizational Setting

The main aim of FAO Country Offices, headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security and reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. FAO Lao PDR assists the Government to develop policies, programs, and projects to address the root causes of hunger and malnutrition, develop the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors and use environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. FAO participates in the development and implementation of field projects in the sectors of food security, agriculture, and rural development. This requires the integration within the broader framework of sustainable food and agriculture that aims at increasing production and productivity, addressing climate change, managing natural resources; and enhancing rural livelihoods.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative to Lao PDR and direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR (Administration) and in close collaboration with the administration staff.

Technical Focus

The driver is responsible for driving the FAO Representative to Lao PDR as well as administration and operation to ensure the safety, technical soundness, and conform of the vehicle assigned.

Tasks and responsibilities

The incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities to support the representation of office administration and operations: - Drive official vehicles of the Organizations to serve the Head of Office and the office. - Bear responsibility for day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned vehicles, carries out regular checks of oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, any malfunctioning, etc., performs minor repairs, and makes arrangements for other repairs with operations and administrative staff; - Ensure that the FAO office’s vehicles are always clean and in good condition and parked at the FAO office when not in official use. - Bear responsibility for keeping his driving license valid and for conforming to the traffic code for meeting all requirements of driving regulations and safety requirements; takes appropriate precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents when left unattended. - Ensure that necessary steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case he/she or the vehicle is involved in an accident; and - Provide backup support to other team members during their absences - Ensure that standard accessories such as the spare wheel, tow, rope, jack, and other necessary tools are inside the car and in excellent working condition; Ensure that the fire extinguisher and first aid kit are always in the car with valid usage dates and notify the operations staff of approaching validity dates of these items; - Ensure the validity of the vehicle documents in close collaboration with the operations and administration staff. - Ensure that all vehicle logbooks are always up-to-date, accurate, and stored inside the vehicle. At regular intervals, the logbooks are submitted to operations staff for review. - Ensure mandatory use of seat belts by everybody traveling in the vehicle; - Abstain from alcohol consumption while on duty; - Conduct diplomatic fleet protocols as needed - Follow instructions from the FAO administrative staff; - Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

- High school diploma - At least 3 years of driving experience for the INGOs, Embassy, UN agency, or development partners. - Valid driving license in the B category; - Working knowledge of the English language. - National of Laos.

Technical/Functional Skills:

- Good driving skills - Knowledge of driving rules and regulations in Lao PDR - Skill in motor vehicle mechanics - Vehicle maintenance skills - Good communication skills - Relevant experience in project and field administration support would be an asset - Understanding of United Nations (UN) security and security measures would be an advantage - Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
