Lead new climate change communications campaign

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, anthropology, international relations, economics, or related field is required.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the field of communications, campaigns, speechwriting, project management or social media is required.
  • Experience working for UN agencies and international organizations is desirable.
  • Experience of communicating on the topic of climate change is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Result of Service Successfully implements new climate change campaign, which leverages the UNDRR's technical analysis, builds partnerships with partners on communications who engage in the campaign, results in increased visibility, media and social media coverage/engagement across the work of UNDRR and the Centre of Excellence for Climate and Disaster Resilience

Duties and Responsibilities United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disaster risk and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations. UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk. In the Communications Team, UNDRR Comms seeks to communicate on and advocate for accelerated action to reduce the risk of disasters. The consultant will be responsible for leading the roll out of a new flagship communications campaign on climate change. He/she will report to Head of Campaigns and Community at United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Chief of the Communications team. He/she will also collaborate with other relevant colleagues within UNDRR, especially in the Risk Knowledge Branch on the technical analysis related to climate change.

Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, anthropology, international relations, economics, or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least 10 years’ experience in the field of communications, campaigns, speechwriting, project management or social media is required. Experience working for UN agencies and international organizations is desirable Experience of communicating on the topic of climate change is desirable

Languages Fluency in English is required
