Develop and implement communications strategies for UNRWA in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
You have:
- Advanced university degree in communications, public relations or international affairs or related discipline.
- At least seven years of experience in communications, public relations or equivalent with increasing managerial responsibility, preferably in a UN Agency or large NGO.
- Two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA and country of citizenship.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and fluent in German.
- Knowledge of United Nations system, particularly public information aspects.
- Experience working with German-speaking media, German MFA, BMZ, German Parliament, Political Foundations.
- Skills in Photoshop and Adobe-InDesign.
- Relating and Networking competency.
- Analyzing competency.
- Strong visual ability with art and/or art history background.
- Ability to engage in critical thinking in developing communications strategies.
- Ability to develop communications guidelines, including branding and social media guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible to the Director of Communications and to the Senior Donor Relations Officer, (Germany Lead). • Supports the development and implementation of the communications strategy in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; maps, analyses and target strategic media across Germany, Austria and Switzerland; liaises with Headquarters Departments to coordinate messaging and ensures that UNRWA messaging is relevant to global themes and receives maximum coverage. • Works on the development in German language of all UNRWA public relations materials including content management, design and publications' dissemination through UNRWA website and social media platforms. • Works with Communications team to create and implement engaging events aimed at various UNRWA stakeholders; develops Agency-wide initiatives and public information events in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. • Supports the advocacy work carried out by the Communications Division; assists in the development of UNRWA advocacy campaign strategies, liaising within the Agency and with partner organizations to ensure coordinated advocacy and accurate information. • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors. Deliverables and payment schedule The deliverables for this consultancy are directly linked to the outputs outlined above. Monthly payments will be made, contingent upon the consultant's progress update.
Qualifications/special skills
• Advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in communications, public relations or international affairs or other related discipline. (A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree). • At least seven years of experience in communications, public relations or equivalent, with increasing managerial responsibility, preferably in a UN Agency, or a large NGO. • Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA and outside the country(s) of citizenship is required. Language • Excellent command of written and spoken English and fluent in German. The consultant needs to be engaged and to perform the above 22 days/month. • This consultancy is remotely based (to be online during working hours in the region)
