The overall strategic goal of ICTD is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally using innovative, technology-enabled digital solutions for better outcomes for children, as well as lead and convene the organization in its digital transformation (DX) journey 2022-2025. A new robust cybersecurity workplan will accompany DX and is equally set to transform the way UNICEF conducts, manages, and safeguards its digital assets, which will necessitate a comprehensive engagement strategy with all staff.

As part of its cybersecurity strategy UNICEF aims at increasing the organization’s awareness and understanding of cyber threats and security best practices, with special emphasis on high-risk job functions, including digital program delivery and beneficiary system roles to promote the cultural and behavioral changes required to tackle the human side of the Cybersecurity equation.

The Senior Communication Associate is instrumental to the implementation of the strategy and will specifically help develop, create, and manage engagement and communication assets to support it.

How can you make a difference?

The Senior Communication Associate is responsible for providing the full range of project management skills to promote, advocate for, and engage staff and external stakeholders around the new cybersecurity programme. The incumbent will collect, analyze, and write materials to be shared throughout the organization around cybersecurity, edit materials shared by others in the team, develop FAQs and key messages, develop and write 1-pagers, explainers, articles, etc., help manage ICTD SharePoint sites, design PowerPoint and presentation decks, and basic video and photo editing.

This Temporary Appointment is based in UNICEF’s ICTD Digital Core in Valencia, Spain, and reports to the Chief, Information Security and the Communication Manager.

Key responsibilities:

• Write, edit, and review contributions from across the organization. • Provide guidance to contributors to ensure their inputs are fact-checked and aligned with ICTD cybersecurity programme and related requirements. • Support managing audiovisual assets for the cybersecurity programme, including videos and photos. • Write and edit articles and other written content for internal and external audiences. • Partner closely with relevant teams across the organization to collaborate on material creation and dissemination. • Help create and design impactful advocacy and reporting materials including presentations for senior management, messages, Q&As, briefing notes, etc. • Support the monitoring of overall effectiveness and impact of programme messaging and engagement. • Support vendor relationships and management of procurement and contracting services. • Provide regular programme and budget status updates to supervisors.

Duration of Contract

This Temporary Appointment is for an anticipated duration of 364 days.

Required Education: • University degree in project management, communication, writing, or related field.

Required Experience: • A minimum of 7 years of work experience in project management, advocacy, communications, writing and editing online communications and web tools management in the development/ humanitarian field, preferably at the global level, including experience researching, writing, and editing copy for multiple audiences, including stories, messages, presentations, etc. •Project management experience, preferably for technical projects with a non-technical audience component

Required Skills and Knowledge: • Strong advocacy and writing skills • Strong understanding of internal and external digital communications methods and tools • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic environment, including ability to develop relationships and build trust with a diverse range of stakeholders. • Ability to handle multiple assignments with competing deadlines. Able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and capacity to work long hours when required. • Knowledge of current theories and practices in audience engagement. • Knowledge and experience operating in a digitized and digitalized environment using office applications, SharePoint and/or other content management systems. • Good working knowledge of working in print, audio, video, web, etc.

Desirable: • Knowledge of or experience with communications related to digital security risks • Experience in graphics, art, animation, and visual design experience. • Knowledge of, or experience with, United Nations or other international organizations, including human rights issues, specifically related to children and women.

Language Requirements: • Fluency in English and in Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, or Russian) is an asset.
