Role Summary

The Advisory practice within the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) advises reforming political leaders and governments on strategy, policy and delivery and achieve significant and positive impact for citizens around the world. We are looking for a Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to lead the foreign policy advisory workstream in Brazil. The Senior Foreign Policy Advisor will collaborate with stakeholders, including the Government of Brazil, to help shape Brazil's foreign policy agenda and strengthening its position on the global stage. This is an exciting senior opportunity requiring exceptional candidates with relevant experiences and competencies.

The person will be based in Brasilia and must be fluent in Portuguese and English.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor will include:

  • Strategic Advisory: Provide strategic advice and analysis to senior officials on foreign policy matters, particularly concerning Brazil's engagement with the Global South and emerging economies. Assist in developing a comprehensive and forward-looking country approach that aligns with Brazil's national interests and priorities.

  • Geopolitical Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of geopolitical trends, regional dynamics, and global power shifts, identifying opportunities and challenges for Brazil's foreign policy. Offer insights and recommendations on navigating complex geopolitical landscapes and strengthening Brazil's international influence.

  • Cooperation Agenda Development: Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and propose a comprehensive cooperation agenda that enhances Brazil's partnerships with other nations, particularly in the Global South. Identify areas for mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology transfer, and sustainable development.

  • Policy Formulation: Contribute to the formulation of foreign policy initiatives and strategies that position Brazil as an influential player on the global stage. Provide guidance on multilateral diplomacy, regional integration efforts, and engagement with international organizations.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster effective communication and collaboration with relevant government agencies, think tanks, academic institutions, and civil society organizations to gather diverse perspectives and build consensus on foreign policy matters.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be an experienced and successful leader:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as international relations, public policy, economics, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive professional experience in multilateral diplomacy, international negotiations, and strategic communications.
  • Proven track record in advising governments or international organizations on global affairs and multilateral processes.
  • Excellent understanding of the G20 framework, its structure, and decision-making processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex political and technical landscapes.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is essential.
