Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in United Nations Multidimentional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) Under the overall coordination of the Chief Security Adviser, the Security Training Officer at FS-5 level reports to the head of Security Training unit, on all security training. The technical line of communication for all security training is maintained with the UN Department of Safety and Security, Training and Development Section (TDS) and the Integrated Mission Training Centre

Responsibilities Assists in the management of a Security Training Unit at the mission HQ or in regional offices. - Contributes to the delivery of security training to security and non-security personnel. - Contributes to the delivery and implementation of Competency Based Learning (CBL) modules, lessons and courses as appropriate. - Conducts Client, Performance and Training Gap Analysis as part of the Training Development Process. - Contributes to the development of dynamic CBL and Programmes of Instructions (POIs), including training in response to emergency crisis situations using current training material modules, practical applications, guide books and CBL methodologies. - Delivers POIs in accordance with the annual security training schedule. - Conducts competency based evaluations in accordance with requirements stipulated by the Inter Agency Security Management System (IASMN) Security Training Working Group. - Ensures that all venues and logistics required for the training and learning activities are provided. - Provides information to be included in the security training reports for all learning programmes; provides recommendations to enhance CBL POIs. - Provides advice, guidance and support on security learning affecting UN personnel mission or regional office wide, as required. - Assists and participates as a facilitator for security training conducted in other entities of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS), as required. - Participates and assists as a facilitator to the UN DSS standardized programmes of instructions being delivered at the mission level (such as Security Certification Programme, Hostage Incident Management, Close Protection Officer Certification, etc), as required. - Performs other duties as required.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification Certification as Firearms training instructor (FTI) or Firearms training officer (FTO) is required.

UN DSS certification in any of the following is desirable : UNDSS Training of Trainer (ToT); Advanced defensive driver trainer; UNDSS Security Trainers development course (TDC); Safe and Secure Approach in Field Environment (SSAFE) Instructor; Emergency Trauma Bag (ETB) Instructor; Basic defense tactics certification (BDTC) instructor; Security Certification Programme (SCP); Security Analysis Practice and Process (SAPP); Hostage Incident Management (HIM);

Shooting simulator training is desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police or security management is required.

A minimum of three years of experience in preparing and conducting Competency Based Learning (adult learning) both in field and formal settings or as learning manager in self-paced distance learning systems is required.

At least two years of experience and exposure at the international level is required.

At least one year of experience in a conflict or post conflict environment is required.

Adult learning experience in designing and delivering policy-based training programmes is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
