You have:

  • Advanced University degree in Security Management, International Relations, Law Enforcement or relevant fields or First University degree with additional experience.
  • Five years of continuous experience in security risk management with at least two years in the humanitarian sector, especially in high-risk environments.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English, demonstrated ability to produce quality documents and reports.
  • Relevant military or police training, and direct field experience in an international context, such as UN operations.
  • Experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating security trainings.

The Security Officer reporting to the Senior Field Security Officer (SFSO) will support the management of WFP’s security operations to enable the effective delivery of programmes that meet food assistance needs and maintain the security and safety of WFP personnel, activities and facilities in Somalia.

What will you do?

The successful candidate will: •Provide technical advice and guidance to strengthen the capacity within security management, crisis readiness and preparedness by contributing to the development of country strategy, policies and planning. •Provide support to the Senior Field Security Officer (SFSO) and provide oversight for implementation of security policy, security procedures and security risk management. •Keep up to date with and advise upon local security developments on potential impact to WFP operations to inform security and operational activities. •Conduct regular security and risk assessment missions in areas where WFP staff members and cooperating partners have operations and or require access. •Coordinate with security forces and SPUs to ensure proper security arrangements for food distribution and provision for armed security escorts for WFP convoys for movements to the field and within Mogadishu. •Evaluate and organize security measures for air operations. •Maintain TRIP/MCR compliance. Coordinate with UNDSS the facilitation of security clearance requests and staff headcounts •Provide coaching and guidance as required to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance. •Monitor and maintain an effective security management communications system that enables rapid and coordinated security activities. •Build and maintain productive relationships with local partners to align activities and optimize the best protection for staff, activities and facilities. •Maintain fire safety arrangements including fire evacuation plan and conduct fire drills and staff training, as necessary. •Perform the role of a surge/roving FSO to provide security support to other Area Offices, as directed by the SFSO.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Advanced University degree in Security Management, International Relations or Law Enforcement or other relevant fields, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses. Experience: Five years of continuous experience in security risk management with at least two years in the humanitarian sector. Experience in high-risk environments is preferred. Experience with the UN Security Risk Management System is an added advantage.

Excellent writing and communication skills in English: ability to produce excellent quality documents and reports and policy documents.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Relevant military or police training, direct field experience in an international context such as UN system organization field operations, UN peacekeeping operations.
  • Has contributed to the development of systems and tools for the monitoring and assessment of security situations in line with innovative methodologies and best practices
  • Has experience in designing, delivering and evaluating security trainings.
  • Creating an empowering and motivating environment in a fast-changing environment.
