  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written proficiency) is required. Knowledge of another United Nations language is desirable.
  • Ability to do research in various topics is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

This post is located in the Security and Training and Development Team (TDT), Security and Safety Services (SSS Vienna), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV). The incumbent will be under the supervision of the Lieutenant,Training and Development Team. The overall team goal of Training and Development Team is to facilitate/support training and development for SSS Vienna officers to the highest standard and provide training to all staff as requested in support of the United Nations Security Management System for safe and secure operations. TDT administers a varied selection of learning programmes both in classrooms and online. The internship is for six (6) months with a desired starting date in November 2024. The position will be UNPAID and full-time, i.e five days (40 hours per week) under the Supervision of the Assistant Chief of UNSSS. For information on the work of UNOV kindly visit www.unov.org Within assigned authority, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties: - Researching, drafting and presenting various training and development–related topics; - Entering data for training-related statistics and gathering other data from existing databases, as required; - Providing support in preparation of training workshops and meetings, including scheduling, review and preparation of materials, registrations, etc.; - Contributing to TDT’s outreach activities which many include training needs analysis, client satisfaction surveys and course evaluations; - Participating in team meetings, and assisting with follow-up activities; - Assisting with townhalls venue set up, conference mission debrief, field office training and other programmes, as needed; - Coordinating with the Learning and Organizational Development Unit and Planning Team on Security Officers language course attendance for planning and scheduling purposes; - Assisting other team members during peak periods with the coordination of various learning and development activities; - Assisting with initial training of new Interns; - Assisting in the Pass Office with picture taking and other administrative tasks weekly - Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
