Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Kidal. Under the overall command of the Principal Security Adviser (PSA), the Security Information Analyst at FS-5 level reports to the Chief of the Security Information Coordination Unit (SICU).

Responsibilities Within limits of delegated authority, and under the supervision of the Chief of the Security Information Coordination Unit (SICU), the Security Information Analyst (SIA) FS-5 assists with the management of information relevant to security, including collection, collation, analysis and dissemination, to be used as a decision-making and planning tool by the UN Designated Official (DO), Area Security Coordinator (ASC), Principal Security Adviser (PSA), Security Management Team (SMT) or Area SMT (ASMT) in the mission, to enhance the safety and security of UN personnel, assets and operations in the Mission Area. The Security Information Analyst will maintain security information awareness of all aspects which could potentially affect the safety and security of the UN, including up-to-date knowledge of events relating to the security environment through monitoring of security incidents, daily situation reports, local media and other open sources.

Specific responsibilities: - Advises the RSO/Chief SICU/PSA on threats affecting the United Nations; - Assists the Chief SICU with supervision of the unit at the mission's Headquarters or in a regional office; - Assists in identification and coordination of security information requirements, collection, collation and dissemination of security threat information to Senior RSO/Chief SICU/PSA, DO or ASC and SMT; - Analyzes security information, identifies trends of threats and security incidents affecting United Nations system personnel, assets and operations at the mission’s headquarters and/or regional offices; - Contributes to trend analysis, gathers information on factors of insecurity, determines the relevance and validity of security information and the reliability of information resources; - Assists the RSO/Chief SICU/PSA in the development of security risk assessments in the country or regional offices, or in preparation of rapid threat and risk assessments; - Contributes to the development of corresponding security advisories and recommendations on security operating procedures; - Participates in the development of the country-wide or regional security risk analyses, briefing materials and presentations to RSO/Chief SICU/PSA, DO or ASC and SMT or ASMT on security matters; - Conducts research on specific threat factors and supports the Crisis Management Team (CMT) in response to specific security incidents; - Maintains effective communication channels with security authorities of host countries and other interlocutors; - Drafts and coordinates timely dissemination of security threat information to mission leadership and security personnel; - Participates in the development of the reports on analysis of security incidents affecting United Nations system personnel, assets and operations; - Through the RSO/Chief SICU/PSA contributes to the development of regional threat assessments; - When assigned, supervises the activities of other Security Information Analysts, international and national staff; - Acts as duty officer in CMT during crisis situations; - Performs other duties as directed by RSO/Chief SICU/PSA.

Education - High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required. - Certification in UN DSS Security Analysis Process and Practice (SAPP) or any formal certification in information analysis is highly desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in military, police, information management or security management is required

At least three (3) years of experience in security information analysis with a military, police, information management or security management of a national and/or international organization is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position (s) advertised, fluency in English and French is required.
