The Opportunity

As Security Coordinator, you are responsible for safety and security of staff, assets and programs within the Emergency context (the far north of Cameroon). In the role of Security Coordinator in DRM Emergency, you will provide effective capacities and technical guidance in management including the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of security threats during the implementation of related activities at the field levels.

You will be identified and sufficiently mitigated direct threats (specific to the organisation’s work) and reduced indirect threats (non-specific) to acceptable levels. Including gender-related ones, are continuously monitored and security plans updated as required

As Security Coordinator, you will be based in Maroua for the whole Program Implementation and Influencing Area with frequent movements in Mayo Tsanaga, Mayo Sava and Logone et Chari divisions and all area where Plan is operating in the Far North of Cameroon.

Under the authority of the Emergency Response Manager, with a doted technical reporting to the Country Security Advisor; As security Coordinator you will be responsible for the development and implementation of security policies, guidelines and procedures in order to ensure the security of all Plan staff, property and operations. This will involve, but is not limited to: promoting a culture of security; security incident reporting; security guard oversight and management; monitoring and analysing the security situation in relation to the Nigerian Refugee and IDPs response in the Far North region of Cameroon, promulgating and maintaining Security related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The Individual

We are looking to recruit someone with a degree in security or a related field, with proven practical work experience, preferably with a non-profit organization or NGO in international humanitarian aid programs, and with a proven ability to plan, organize and execute security operations in the field. As a security coordinator, you will have experience in conducting participatory risk assessments and preparing situational analyses, with good communication skills (written and verbal) in French and English to present and obtain information quickly and clearly to a variety of audiences. Knowledge of local languages will be a considerable asset.
