Summary of Position

The Stabilization Center Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the treatment and management of under-five children with acute malnutrition and complications in a Stabilization Center. This position involves coordinating the healthcare team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, and optimizing patient outcomes for children with acute malnutrition and associated medical conditions.

Purpose

The purpose of the Stabilization Center Supervisor role is to provide leadership and supervision in the Stabilization Center, ensuring the effective treatment and management of under-five children with acute malnutrition and complications. The Supervisor collaborates with healthcare professionals, manages resources, and maintains a safe and nurturing environment for the children and their families. Their objective is to optimize the children's nutritional status, address their medical needs, and support their overall well-being.

Engagement

Stabilization Center Supervisor will engage in various activities to fulfill his/her role in managing and supervising the center. He/She will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, nutritionists, and support staff, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for the children with acute malnutrition with complications. The Supervisor actively engages with the children and their families, providing support, education, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision to the Stabilization Center staff, including healthcare providers and support personnel. Assign duties, monitor performance, provide feedback, and promote professional growth and development within the team.
  • Treatment Coordination: Coordinate the treatment and management of under-five children with acute malnutrition with complications as per the IMAM protocol. Ensure adherence to evidence-based protocols and guidelines for nutritional rehabilitation, medical care, and psychosocial support.
  • Resource Management: Manage resources, including staffing, medical supplies, therapeutic food, and equipment, to ensure the effective functioning of the Stabilization Center. Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels and facilitate procurement as necessary.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the nutritional rehabilitation process, patient safety, and clinical outcomes for the children. Collect and analyze data, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to optimize care processes.
  • Staff Education and Training (CME): Provide education and training to Stabilization Center staff on topics such as the management of acute malnutrition, treatment protocols, and psychosocial support for children and their families. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with healthcare professionals from other departments, community organizations, and relevant stakeholders to ensure holistic care for the children. Communicate effectively with the children, their families, and caregivers, involving them in the treatment plan and providing necessary guidance and support.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient information, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes. Prepare reports and participate in data collection for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines governing the treatment and management of acute malnutrition in children. Adhere to ethical principles and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, nutrition, or a related field. Master's degree in public health, nutrition, or a relevant discipline is preferred but not always required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pediatric healthcare, nutrition, or a related field, including experience in managing acute malnutrition and overseeing healthcare teams.

Required Skills, Competencies & Attributes:

  • In-depth knowledge of the management of acute malnutrition in under-five children, including assessment, treatment protocols, and monitoring.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, including the ability to supervise and motivate a diverse healthcare team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with healthcare professionals, children, and their families.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and international guidelines for the treatment of acute malnutrition.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and other relevant healthcare technologies.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
